Topic in English
Maybe it could be interesting for people who do not speak or understand any Finnish to have a topic in whitch they could ask questions and add comments in English on the Finnish forum. Finnish users might know more about Finland-related issues concerning the euro.
This would only be for issues somehow related to Finland; for other issues they could still post messages on the general forum.
I have a few questions related to Finnish eurobanknotes whitch I cannot answer.
Does anyone know for sure why there are Finnish 50 euro banknotes printed by Delarue (printercode H)?
Could anyone tell me what the Bank of Finland is saying about Delarue in these few sentences:
"Suomen Pankki on tilannut 225 miljoonaa
euroseteliä. Näistä Setec valmistaa valtaosan eli
kaikki Suomessa painettavat. Sen lisäksi englantilainen
De La Rue Currency -niminen setelipaino
valmistaa Suomelle pienen erän euroseteleitä.
Rahapaja valmistaa kaikki Suomen tarvitsemat
kolikot, kaikkiaan noin 1,5 mrd. kappaletta.
Suomessa euroseteleitä alettiin painaa marraskuussa
1999. Eurokolikoiden lyönti alkoi
Suomessa jo elokuussa 1998. "
How many banknotes were assigned to the Bank of Finland since 2002 (broken down by year)?

I agree with you that there should be a topic in the Finnish forum in English too, to make it easier for the not-Finnish-speaking ebters to discuss things especially concerning things related to Finnish EBT community and the way Finnish speaking ebters think.
I have been to EBTM06 in Amsterdam and in EBTM07 in Berlin and found out that the things that have been discussed in the Finnish forum do not always reflect the opinions of the other European ebters. It's just those minor things, but still they are causing misunderstandings. It's like questions of where you should mark you note if you get it in a long-haul train and so on. (By the way the argued compromise in the Finnish forum is much closer to rational solution than the rules nowadays existing.)
The need for common-language topic goes with the other language-related EBT-forums as well.
I'm still a bit sorry for disturbing the conversation of the Dutch EBT forum with the arguments in English (and not in Dutch) pointed to another Finn last year. If it is a forum for Dutch language so shall it be that way. If we don't all together decide otherwise.
I'm of the opinion that there should be one topic of poor English in each language oriented forum. Why? Because it is so convenient to stick to our own language. And still the EBT is in it's very nature an European affair connecting different nationalities and languages. There is a real need for a common language to communicate. *1
There is no other language for that but just this our poor European project-English of ours with it's errors and misunderstandings, I'm afraid.
Let's even try to monger the same language even though we don't know how. Italians are the best in this, I think. They never mind small mistakes that are driving the British crazy. It's good and fair for them. We should learn from the Italians.
There are just a dozen of Finnish ebters who participate the discussion in the English forum. Some are reading it but not commenting anything. I'm not a specialist in sociology or psychology but I think one of the main reasons for the Finnish ebters' silence is that the Finnish education warns us not to make any mistakes, so you better say nothing not to make a mistake. Maybe this doesn't make any sense, but what does?
The only risk for this new topic is that some people start to write long philosophical nonsense stories (like me) that no-one bothers to read. The longer the stories, the higher the threshold to participate.
So let us all the people join this poor-English topic in the Finnish forum with the right to write there in poor English and if needed, in Finnish, too. Other people translate it if they find it crucial.
It's easy, like life, isn't it?

Sorry but I cannot answer your questions, but there are a lot of people who can. Waiting for a reply? Me too.
Happy Valentine's Day!
And as a Valentine present here's the poor project-English translation, all the errors and misreadings included:
"Suomen Pankki on tilannut 225 miljoonaa
euroseteliä. The Bank of Finland has ordered 225 million euro notes.
Näistä Setec valmistaa valtaosan eli
kaikki Suomessa painettavat. Of these Setec is manufacturing most of i.e. all the ones printed in Finland. (This is so old and wrong news, I think, PWP)
Sen lisäksi englantilainen De La Rue Currency -niminen setelipaino
valmistaa Suomelle pienen erän euroseteleitä. Besides English note printing press called De La Rue Currency is manufacturing a small amount of euro notes for Finland.
Rahapaja valmistaa kaikki Suomen tarvitsemat
kolikot, kaikkiaan noin 1,5 mrd. kappaletta. Rahapaja company (literally translated as Money Smithy but names are never translated) is manufacturing all the coins needed in Finland, all together 1,5 milliard coins.
(One British milliard means here same as one billion in American, meaning accurately measured as 1.000.000.000 (and actually close to it as big numbers never reflect reality more than as an image for receivers and their games such as science) i.e. one thousand million. By the way, as there are just 5 million inhabitants in Finland, why don't I have my share (about 200 coins) in my pocket? Because I rather have notes with serial numbers in my pocket.)
Suomessa euroseteleitä alettiin painaa marraskuussa
1999. Euronotes were first printed in Finland in November 1999.
Eurokolikoiden lyönti alkoi Suomessa jo elokuussa 1998. Minting of euro coins took place in Finland as early as in August 1998.

(Sorry for mentioning the bad word "connecting" as especially in Germany they don't want to be reminded of the mean factory killer, the Deutchland-eating Nokia nowadays. The funny thing is that Nokia is nowadays more than 10 % owned by the Germans and less than 10 % owned by the Finns.
We get what we order, not what we deserve, we blue-eyed boys and girls, in this world.)

Today I recieved this in my newspapershop, that surely made my day.The note was a little bit torn, so I restored it with tape, to be sure it wouldn't go directly to a bank I gave it as change money to an african customer of mine.
Too bad it was already gone before I translated the comments my hitpartners wrote , I should have examined it more thoroughly.
Anyway, I am very happy with this hit and I'm sure peepee2007 and Jiipee72 are too.

Unfortunately it was one of the few notes that I received during my holiday in Finland, last summer, and immediately spent. Had it been one of those which I brought from Italy, it would have been far more exciting both for me and Tinker's Damn. Thanks anyway

Re: Topic in English
It was the peak point of my working week in Gothenburg - I spent most of my spare time visiting Forex currency exchanges since they don't have a fee for buying foreign (Euro) currency. Now the note has travelled even more (the distance from Mülheim an der Ruhr to Gothenburg was 769 km but the distance between Gothenburg airport and Lapua where I left it is 830 km.)magpie wrote:Thanks to Eliezer for this beautiful hit: http://www.eurobilltracker.eu/notes/?id=41383935
BTW, it was the first I've heard of Mülheim an der Ruhr, but the very next day I got a second reminder.

Re: Topic in English
Hi,
I hope that I find open ears for my question. Some of you probably know, that one of my main interests is to decipher the secrets behind the controlnumbers of all Euro banknotes.
One of my problems certainly is the fact, that most EBT users do not want to give too much information on numbers, because one fears fake hitters. But I assure you, I would never use information from any EBT source in order to create fakes or anything similar.
THat was my beginning, now comes my problem:
I have tried to check on the new 20 Euro notes, printed by Oberthur in France - those notes with the printer code H003.
Usually the numbering goes as follows: country code Finland = L ; digit 1-6 define the position in the printed sheet A1, A2 etc.; digits 7-10 are consecutive numbers and digit 11 is the infamous checking digit.
As far as H003 notes are concerned, the numbers start with L250000****** at position A6 and end at I1. Each position will be shown in 5 consecutive numbers - thus A6 is valid for all notes numbered L250000***** up to including L250004*****, A2 has L250005 up to including 250009 - and so on. I1 will have L250265 to L250269. L250270 is used again with A6 and that goes on and on and on - so I thought.
This data is only correct for all known numbers (known numbers for me !!) up to L255000. and here is a break - the next known numbers I have begin with L258 resp. L259 - and all my calculations are overboard. For example, L259183 should be A6, but it is G6. L259335 is H4 and not G1.
Now comes my request to you: Could all of you, who have H003 controlnumbers starting with 258 and or 259 tell me the complete 6 numbers and the sheet position, like 259123 H5 or 258987 A3 - with our help it may be possible for me to find a solution to the problem.
Many thanks in advance
