Summer-EBTM09: Agenda for 20/08/2009 - THURSDAY ... UPDATE!
Here it comes!!! Please also visit: Map
THURSDAY, Aug. 20th
* Registration
Starting at 12:00 – University ramp (Dr.-Karl-Lueger-Ring 1, 1010 Wien)
Station: Schottentor
Public transit: U-Bahn: U2
Tram: D, 1, 37, 38, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44
Bus: 1A, 40A
During registration, you will receive your badges as well as information about Vienna and the Summer-EBTM. We will also be collecting payments for EBTM events (such as the Giant Ferris wheel, trip to Bratislava, Heurigen evening, barbeque, etc.) at the same time.
Registration officially ends at 13:15, after which we will walk as a group to the Austrian National Bank (OeNB).
* Austrian National Bank
13:45 – in front of the OeNB-building (Otto-Wagner-Platz 3, 1090 Wien)
Station: Landesgerichtsstraße
Public transit: Tram: 43, 44
UPDATE:
The National Bank asked for a list of participants, so please provide your full name (until the 14th of August) via PM to ErGo. To make it easier for us please indicate which is/are first name(s) and which is second name. Furthermore we suggest to take an ID with you, just in case...
During the tour, we will be divided into three groups, doing three activities in turn:
- Money museum (incl. Europe’s largest golden coin)
- Counterfeit money training (incl. the chance of having a “real” counterfeit in your hands)
- Changing money
Changing at the OeNB is possible whenever you want, but you will only get brand new bills. Especially for our meeting, the OeNB has agreed to order used notes for changing. Therefore we have to tell the OeNB how many bills of what denominations we would like to change. Concerning this matter please send your wishes (until the end of July) via PM to jack_isidore!
It will for example be possible to exchange 5ers for 5ers. Warning: Due to OeNB policy, well-used bills (torn, marked, etc.) will be sorted out and destroyed, so it would be better to spend these somewhere else...
* Tour of the Ring Road
17:30 – in front of the OeNB-building (Otto-Wagner-Platz 3, 1090 Wien)
Station: Landesgerichtsstraße
Public transit: Tram: 43, 44
A short walk past the Votivkirche to the Viennese stock exchange, whence we will take tram-line 1 to go to the brewery where we will have dinner.
On the way, we will see – in addition to the Votivkirche, Stock exchange and University – City Hall, the Burgtheater with adjacent gardens, Parliament, the Hofburg, the two Museums and last but not least, the Opera house. There the tram leaves the Ring Road and carries us on the Wiedner Hauptstraße heading out of town past the Technical University to the dinner’s location.
* Dinner and brewery tour
18:30 – Wieden Bräu (Waaggasse 5, 1040 Wien)
Station: Paulanergasse
Public transit: Tram: 1, 62
Before we have dinner, there is the chance to have a free tour through the inn’s brewery. We have no pre-arranged menu, and all meals/beverages will be ordered á la carte, on individual bills (i.e. you pay for what you eat and drink). There in the brewery, the first day of the Summer-EBTM will slowly draw to a close.

Re: Summer-EBTM09: Agenda for 20/08/2009 - THURSDAY
Wow, this sounds like a great programm! Really looking forward for it. Is it also possible to change old shilling coins and bills at this occasion?
And already a wish: Is it possible to create a final piece of paper (or a PDF file to print it out at home) with the schedule and the location details to carry it with you? I missed something like that in Ljubljana.
PS: @Burky: keep on running

A question on behalf of many EBTers (at least, that's what I presume
): will it be possible to change more than once at the National Bank? E.g. first changing small(er) notes into big(ger) notes, then writing the bigger notes down, and after that change the big(ger) notes into small(er) notes again?

Re: Summer-EBTM09: Agenda for 20/08/2009 - THURSDAY
It should be possible, but maybe it will be better to do these transactions right before we meet, or proceed from the registration to the OeNB ahead of the group...wisi wrote:Wow, this sounds like a great programm! Yes, we were thinking of something like that:wisi wrote:And already a wish: Is it possible to create a final piece of paper (or a PDF file to print it out at home) with the schedule and the location details to carry it with you? I missed something like that in Ljubljana.
If that's too late, try copy and paste.AGENDA wrote:...as well as information about Vienna and the Summer-EBTM

I also ask for your patience concerning the agenda for the other days. Some of the activities are a matter of participants, and registration is not yet closed.

The OeNB told us, that we have 40 minutes at every activity. If you are able to change more than once - with respect to all the others trying to change - within that limits, why not?!Crazy Bob wrote:...will it be possible to change more than once at the National Bank? As described above, it will also be possible to change for example :note-5:ers for :note-5:ers

And don't forget to PLACE YOUR ORDERS... (PM to jack_isidore as described above)

I went to OeNB today to get rid of my schillings. There are two machines in the lobby, both of which count schilling and/or euro coins. You can take that receipt to the cashier, and get bright, shiny new coins/bills from them in exchange. The cashier I spoke with does speak English -- can't vouch for all of them, of course.Burky wrote:OeNB does also change coins, but may charge you a fee for doing so. And I got four packs of crisp, new

(and with the hit ratio here in Vienna, I figure sooner or later, one of the folks here will find one of them anyway)

This sounds just great and I slowly start to get a bit excited about the EBTM.
And this is just the program of one day out of 3-4! Amazing. By the way, what happened to the online registration idea?
