Europe's unluckiest persons -or what shall we call this list

Post by Annie_in_exile »

For all of you who stumble on this message and wonder what it’s all about: well, here we keep a list of those eurobilltrackers, who have entered most notes without having a single hit. We have listed 2 or 3 such members from each country, and each time one of them gets their first hit, the list is updated. The blue colour marks all those users who have started tracking in 2002 and still haven't had a single hit. The structure of the list is:
Country represented by the tracker – placement of each tracker within their own country ranking list – name of the tracker and the amount of notes they have registered so far. It’s funny how some people strive for becoming the most unlucky person in Europe, thus let’s see who stays on the list and who is out.

Italy #11 Aleudin 6578 notes– #19 Andy1974 4377 notes
Germany #43 Petersen 6163 notes – #59 Kiki 4793 notes
Portugal #6 spikyxpto (i) 5794 notes – #25 Ana Silva 2720 notes
Spain– # 8 Alfanhui 5760 notes – #11 er_fleky 4656 notes
Greece #2 Drachenwald 4594 notes – #3 Vangelis (inactive) 3860 notes
Austria #14 Moise 2970 notes – #19 Gpeck 2631 notes
Ireland #3 byrnefm 2696 notes – #6 Simonluv 1056 notes
France #15 Yonumis (i) 1578 notes – #16 Fata 1522 notes
Luxembourg #2 Piral 1460 notes – #4 Tine 3675 notes
Belgium #131 euro.be (i) 1357 notes – #146 Scheids 1203 notes
the Netherlands #180 Stingray01 1206 notes – #189 Eine van Mestreech 1163 notes
Switzerland #1 Malte 1199 notes – #2 Micdap 347 notes
United Kingdom #2 matt.berlin (i) 227 notes – #3 gareth_aethwy 166 notes
United States #1 Siciliana85 343 notes – #2 esperantisto (i) 150 notes – # 3 BobDog (i) 120 notes (but this doesn’t really count since BobDog lives in Belgium and registers notes here, albeit using the US flag)

It just occurred to me that being mentioned on this list seems to be a good omen.
Donald was first mentioned on 21.8. and on 30.8. he got his first hit (plus another in mid-November).
Jovada stayed only 2 days, 21.8.->23.8. and has got five hits at the moment.
Hista was replaced after 3 weeks on the list and seems to have got another one today 14.11.
Wimpy flew out on 19.9. and has had another hit since.
Hjkmans has been on the list ever since it was created and he flew out on 14.11.
NaSu came on 12.9. and went 21.11.
Jani73 stayed only for a week, 24.11-2.12.
Annie_in_exile came to the list in the end of September and left 3 months later.
Alfe was a veteran on this list, but he finally got a hit after more than 10 000 entered notes, he flew out on 6.1.2004.
Blanchke of Belgium was quick: in 26.1., out 4.2. (from #2 position)
As was Joergb30 of Germany: in 4.2., out 9.2. (from #3 position)
i.love.euro of Italy has started tracking only in 11/03 and four months later (s)he was hit at 5790 notes
L'€UROP€€N left the list on 27.3. at 7939 notes.
Pierik got a nice hit on 1.4. (needed 4537 notes for that) - and this wasn't an April Fool's joke.
Later the same day Mr Euro (Belgium) fell from #2 position with his hit.
The third Frenchman to leave us was KARR - quickly up, quickly down.
(Another Frenchman Jeh never made it to this list - he was hit between updates of this list, having entered about 3200 notes.)
MM8_NL of the Netherlands fell from the #2 position – but I wasn’t there to witness the exact amount of notes then. At the moment there are 3642.
Miss-Tweety sang her swan song and left the list on 11.5. with 3971 notes.
10 months on the list, at 10929 notes jmartinezot leaves this unlucky list. Boy, you’ve earned it!
2 Finns leave on 14.6. Schaza with 1191 notes, Juxu with 1079 notes
On 22.6. el_motedura (2nd unluckiest of Portugal) leaves us at 3378 notes
Belgian Lonesome cowboy makes a trip to Germany and comes back with a winning note - falls from #2 position with 3132 notes. Rufus50 takes his place.
Asiamaniac from Germany is out on 5.8.04: 8701 notes, 28 months as a tracker. Number 1 position in Germany since heaven-knows-when.
MDeen of the Netherlands: out from #2 position (at around 1897 notes)
Seinen of the Netherlands: out from #2 position (at about 1854 notes)
Groucho, Spain, out from #1 position with 2615 notes. Spanish hits are rare, so this hit was most welcome.
Rufus50 of Belgium falls from #2 position in Belgium with his 2563 notes.
Kyypupu of Finland, into #2 position on 1.9., out 11.9. with 751 notes.
PEKU/NL on the same day, #3 position with about 1866 notes.
Francky of France falls from #1 position on 13.9. with 2364 notes.
Helge from Germany loses his #1 position on 20.9. with 9329 notes. Now you can update your hit ratio, buddy!
Well, there's nothing stopping Helge now. On the following day he dragged Haemoglobin with him (#2 in Germany with circa 6623 notes)
Austria's Nefertari leaves us on 3.10. at 1796 notes, from #3 ranking.
Nataschja/NL left us from #2 position at 2275 notes and got another hit quite soon.
Elio, Portuguese number 2 at 2781 notes
ikke_ook (Belgium) is true to his name and gets a hit, too at 1553 notes
Honorary mention to Fonzie (NL) who was hit between updates! Hooray!
Hit in Switzerland: Roman70 has entered only 168 notes and gets a gorgeous hit both time-wise and distance-wise. He is out since 13.10.
Davy29 (Be) has been yoyoing on the list with Lange Wapper, but he is definitely out since 23.10. and needed 2672 to do that.
Soltel of Spain entered the list on 14.10. and left it on 3.11. Up til now: 6674 notes.
Rogerlescargot/Belgium: out on 26.11. at 4188 notes.
el Presidente/FI 1592 notes (when I checked), 5.1.2005
Eurosammler/AT 2532 notes out on 20.1.2005
ItalianMoney out on 25.1.
Keyne out on (7256) 12.3.
Ulrich W. Meier (ca 4414) 7.3.
Borri United (4398) 12.3.
Mardy (ca 2321)

I think that this has already been done (the information may be old) in general, and some of the countries too.

Real-ly? Where? I've only seen that somebody started a discussion asking other users to indicate their status (Eurobilltracker Users/Who has most notes without a hit?) but I haven't seen official statistics anywhere. Well, if you suspect that the information exists but may be outdated, wouldn't it be nice to see the current situation?

A challenge, yes, in a "build a house with your bare hands" way, ie. things would be much quicker and less painful if proper tools were used. The problem is that MySQL's idea of SQL is quite limited when compared to the other database systems with which I earn my salary. Of course getting such statistics is possible regardless of the database used, I'll just have to adapt my mind to the weirdnesses of MySQL. For those who are curious, the lack of subselects and unions are the two things that bug me the most.

Here's the table:

Code: Select all

I did dig into this in December (warning: in Finnish). At that time I didn't have direct access to the database and I had to generate the stats by using publicly available data.

Dear Avij, while this query is still fresh in your mind, could you please update the list? Jovada from Belgium has had a hit today - who would be the next "unlucky"?

This is actually a rather interesting thread. In theory you need 2648 bills entered to get a hit. 403 hits on 1067317 bills, but with this list you can see that to get a hit in Belgium you can have a hit if you have more than 1822 bills entered. In Finland you need at least 2136 bills, In Germany at least 6431 bills and in the Netherlands you need more than 6972 hits. The other countries I don't actually count in because most of them are the number one users in their country.

So I believe that you can say, that the spread of users/bills in Belgium is the best to get a hit and in Germany it's harder to get a hit...

So for me, since I have like 1164 bills entered, it's like 700 bills to go to get a hit... Hopefully this theory of mine makes sence
