Hello from the Dominion of New Zealand!

Post by BCNumismatics »

I had forgotten that I had joined up,so I want to say,"Hello" all the way from the Dominion of New Zealand.

I specialise in collecting banknotes, coins, postal orders,& traders' currency tokens from across the British Commonwealth.

I have been in the process of setting up some collectors' groups up on http://www.coinnetwork.com .

If you have any enquiries in relation to British Commonwealth numismatics, please feel free to let me know.

The only countries that I am collecting Euro banknotes & coins from are Cyprus,Ireland,& Malta.

It seems you are interested in the notes with a "british" background, so maybe it would also interesting for you to give €-notes with an H-printer-code a place in your collection as these were printed in the UK.

So far, the following combinations, printed by De La Rue in Gateshead and marked with an H-Code, exists:

:note-20: for Portugal (M-serials)
:note-20: for Ireland (T-serials)
:note-50: for Finland (L-serials)
:note-50: for the Netherlands (P-serials)
:note-50: for Portugal (M-serials)
:note-100: for Finland (L-serials)

The :note-20: + :note-50: are only available with the signature of the first ECB-president Duisenberg, the :note-100: exists also with the signature of the 2nd ECB-president Trichet.

Thanks for the warm words of welcome.

The only Euro notes that I do have so far are the 2002 5 & 10 Euros from Ireland, which have a 'T' prefix code & the signature of the late Wim Duisenberg.

You will find an up to date list of the Euro banknote code letters on the European Central Bank's website, which has recently been amended to include Slovakia's code letter.

I returned from Great Britain yesterday, and now I noticed I have a 1971 two pence coin in my wallet. Could this thing be worth anything or is it just an unlikely souvenir.
My NIG stats have finally disappeared. My EBTST stats are still available.

They are stll common in the UK so it is only worth 2 pence.

i often ask change in penny's , the coins from before 1991 are copper ( not copper plated steel ones like now) * and depending on the scrap price could be worth a bit more ( no i dont ask change in penny's for that reason im just trying to colect all of the years of the coins)

* counts also for 2 pence

Some of the 1992 1 Penny & 2 Pence coins are bronze.Every date from 1993 onwards is copper-plated steel, except for 1998,in which both bronze & copper-plated steel coins were struck.

1991 1 Penny & 2 Pence coins are all bronze as well.

Maarsy,
Bronze is a very hard alloy, which contains tin, whereas, copper is a pure element.

Ireland hasn't been in the British Commonwealth for 60 years :P
But I won't get into that.
There aren't any notes printed by Cyprus or Malta as far as I'm aware, so you're stuck with only collecting Irish notes.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Fjon,
It is true that the Republic of Ireland withdrew from the British Commonwealth in 1949,but this hasn't affected the popularity of the Republic of Ireland's coins with British Commonwealth numismatists. The same goes for the banknotes & postal orders of the Republic of Ireland as well.

I often say to Irish people,"The isle of Ireland has 2 countries on it.One that is a British Commonwealth country,& the other should also be a British Commonwealth country as well".

I have been advised by someone on http://eurocollection.ning.com that both Cyprus & Malta are going to be issuing their first Euro notes this year - 20 Euros.

That is correct, but they are not seen yet, so there is even a chance they will not have their own letter but the printing countries letter.
