EuroBillTracker IRC channel

Hello!

EuroBillTracker has quite a good community built around it on this forum.
What about talking about this and that (preferably about EBT/euros/europe) in real time?

I didn't find any IRC channel for EBT, so I created #EBT in IRCnet.
So, please join the channel or tell me about EBT-channels in other irc networks than ircnet.
There probably won't be any discussion for a while as the channel needs at least about 10 somewhat active people to work well. So, please just come to the channel and hang around. Eventually (few weeks, maybe months) the conversation will surely begin.

The main language will be English. Also other languages are tolerated if everyone who are ircing that time can speak the language used.
If even one ircer doesn't understand the language used, English must be used instead. Otherwise the one using non-understandable language will be kicked.

How ever kicking will be as rare as possible. That's the last thing to do, after asking nicely has failed. No swearing please. Don't call people idots. Feel free to ask even stupid questions. The one calling the question stupid is stupid himself and may in some cases find himself/herself kicked.

If you don't know any other IRCnet servers, use irc.stealth.net

You can get an IRC-client here: http://www.xchat.org/ . There are versions for both Windows and Linux.

EDIT:
Some explanation of what IRC actually is:
IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It's a real-time textual conversation system. It's a bit like the ah-so-well known webchats, but has some clear differences.
The biggest difference is the so colled op-system. So, if the channel the person joins to doesn't exist yet, it is created and the person is given channel operator privileges. That means you're the kind of the king of the channel you've just created.
If people act stupidly, they can be kicked out from the channel. So, the normal problems the webchats practically always have don't appear in IRC.
IRC needs an own client program. The point of the IRCclient is about the same as the point of a web browser. While a web browser connects to websites you want to read, an IRC client connects to IRC channels you want to read.

Most IRC clients support clicking here and there with mouse.
But in every IRC client also these commands work:
/SERVER serveraddress -- Selects irc.stelath.net as the used IRC server. You must first connect to some server to be able to join a channel.
/NICK nickname -- Changes your nickname to the specified nickname. Maximum length for a nickname is 9 characters. No spaces allowed.
/JOIN #channelname -- Joins the specified channel name.
/KICK #channelname nickname reason -- Kicks the person with the specified nickname out from the channel
/PART #channelname reason -- Goes away from a channel
/QUIT -- Disconnects from the server, often also closes your irc client program.

Examples of commands:
/SERVER irc.stealth.net
/NICK EBT-fan
/JOIN #ebt
/KICK #ebt Dakkus Je bent éen winkelier! 8)
/PART #ebt I hate you all!

Please note that there are far more commands than these listed. These are just the most important ones.

EDIT2: Corrected the IRC-program link.

if you have an irc-program (like mIRC, pIRCH, ...) it's easy, just type:

/server irc.stealth.net
/join #EBT

if you don't have any irc-program; no problem.. i just made a webpage where you can join the channel: http://users.pandora.be/zandvliet/EBT-chat

There's a lone textfield in the center when you start. Enter your name there.

How do I solve this problem?
I don't get this error when connecting to Quakenet IRC servers....

I can't simply turn of my proxy, or I can't get on the Internet at all.... :/

Read this. If the proxy is under your control, fix it. If it's operated by your ISP, tell them to fix it. The fix that's needed is to disallow people from the rest of the Internet from using your proxy. If you need further assistance, please tell me the exact IP address of your proxy (preferably by PM) and the proxy software name if you know it.

The open proxies contribute to the spam problem. Luckily there are things such as opm.blitzed.org that let me filter out emails originating from computers running open proxies. opm.blitzed.org is one of the blacklists that I use on the mail servers that I run.

I read the FAQ, but it doesn't say how to fix it...
I've got a pc with WinXP attached to the Internet, with ICS and Winproxy.
Maybe Winproxy is causing the problems, but I never had any before... (well, at least, I was never banned from IRC because of it :p)

That's because there are dozens of proxy programs available, trying to keep a track of all of them on one page would be kinda difficult. You should have a look at the Winproxy website for hints, the basic rule is that you shouldn't allow anyone except people from your internal network (which is most probably 10.x.x.x) to access that proxy.

It may also be that if your IP address changes from time to time, someone else may have had an open proxy at the same address before you got that address and there may be nothing wrong with your computer or its settings. In this case you should just try again later.
