Do you have a GPS?
I'd like to know who has a GPS. If I had one, I could know exactly where I got my notes every time.
Also, I love travelling, am planning to travel to Libya in 2006 and I wonder if I should want one.
I understand there are a lot of different devices within a big range of prices and characteristics. For the few (I guess) who will answer positively, please include details on your description.

Looks like I'm the first who has one?!
I have a Garmin eTrex Vista. I'm very satisfied with this GPS. It's small (like a Nokia mobile phone), has a compass and a barometric altimeter. That's useful for birding and hiking.
Mostly, I use it on vacation. In Ireland, I've found some Blowholes with my GPS, in Venezuela I know the exact spot of the Harpy Eagle, ...
Here you can find more product info.

DO YOU HAVE A GPS?
Yes I have one: it is a Garmin III Plus. It is a cartographic GPS and it has a lot of functions. I'm very satisfied with him. I used it a lot on my travels in the Sahara Desert but now I'm using the GPS for the Geocaching only. (www.geocaching.com)

Geocaching
Hi, desertsailor (I like your nick!)
You might be happy to know that there are at least 4 other geocachers on the forum:
bhoeyb (forum and site profiles)
Divine (forum and site profiles)
wouter (forum and site {?} profiles) -- if his/her site url is correct, s/he has left EBT recently
bkaysimon (site url, only one note entered, found in a geocache, suspicious)
Cheers

Hey, I'm the second with a GPS!
I have a Garmin eMap. It's out of production now, but it's probably still available at some places.
Pluspoints:
+ small
+ nice screen
+ downloadable maps
Minuspoints:
- not very rugged. Especially the battery compartment can give problems
- maps are quite expensive (if you want to get them the legal way)
- old technology, so serial connection, no USB
On the whole, I'm very happy with it.

Wow, where did you know I cache?lmviterbo wrote: You might be happy to know that there are at least 4 other geocachers on the forum:
There are even more geocachers here:
tgwash
hedberg
CyberJunkie
Basisti
Captain_Morgan&Family
The 1st three are the Swedes who got the recent triple hit from a eurobill that moves in geocaches. See my post in the Suspicious notes & users thread.
Basisti read about geocaching in Finnish forum (where Captain Morgan asked if geocache bill would be ok), and now he has found his first caches here in Finland.

Re: Geocaching
Just searched for "geocaching" and "geochache" in the forums. What frustrates me is not having found either Basisti or Captain_Morgan&Family. Or Niloc, for that matter...Divine wrote:Wow, where did you know I cache?
Come, Come Imviterbo, you don't think we use the same name on www.geocache.com do you.
I'm a regular reader and contributer to their forum. However I find that EBT provides more discussion on local topics than the geocache forum which is obviously American dominated.
I use an Garmin eTrex which I have found as good and as accurate as any on the market. I was told by an American friend that the ones with all the bells and whistles are still the basic ones with bits added. He informed me that he only uses about 50% of it's capability, the rest being surplus to requirements The eTtex is also very light and user friendly.
So don't mess with geocachers, they know how to hide a body
