Do you have a handicap?
There is so much we want to know from each other in this topic, but there is still one thing we never spoke about: do you have a handicap or do you know someone who was a handicap? (Handicap in the broadest way)
For myself, the sister of my best friend is having the down syndrome. It's a really sweet girl, the one thing is that she is 18 now but still acting in every behaviour like a girl of 5/6. For the rest it's a really sweet girl.
So how about you guys?

I do not have any handicap myself, but I do have a cousin who is handicapped. He did not get enough oxygen during his birth and therefore a part of his brain is damaged. I believe he is 25 now, but he behaves like a child of about 11 years old. However, when it comes to talking about football, he knows more than anyone else in our family.

His mom gives me numbers of notes which I enter with his name (Jeffrey). Fortunately he has got already two hits. He was very, very happy about this. He can understand EBT because computing is his hobby in a simple way.
I do. I have a form of autism, called the Asperger Syndrome. A good
description of what the Asperger Syndrome is can be found here.
Before I got diagnosed AS there were many discussions between psycholo-
gists and psychiatrists. Reason: I am not rigid, whereas people with AS tend
to be rigid. I encounter most problems with my social and communicational
skills (possibly the people who spoke to me at the Dutch EBT-meeting from
18-12-2004 noticed it - I'm curious to know!). Still I try to improve these
skills, because when I want to get a normal life I am bound to deal with non-
autistic people. I have improved these skills a lot, but still have a lot to
improve. Another problem I ecnounter is that my hobbies may turn into
compulsive obsessions (like EBT - Some days I had withdrawn €7000 in
fivers, i.e. 14 packs of 100 bills. I had to put them in several pockets of my
coat, and these packs made me feel like a Palestinean suicidal terrorist!).
I would not be surprised if there were more people at EBT with some form
of autism.
Oh yeah, I am also asthmatic.
And some people consider being gay a handicap too, but screw them!
my 3rd €20 bill to become a hit!

@ Elmo; I find it really strong of you that you share this information with us. Of course you could keep it for yourself but it's good to know that you trust these people and us. And I know, because I met you a couple of times, that you are a very optimistic guy, I find that good!
I hope more interesting stories will follow.

I agree with giberski, it's very corageous of you to share that and I feel honored that you trust this community (which includes me) enough to do it.
Personally, I'm a mild manic-depressive, but nothing that has a significant impact in any part of my life. My mother, though, has a hard case of ataxia, which is a disease that affects the cerebellum and the spinal cord. She has very little muscle coordination and cannot walk at all without the support of another person or a tripod. Her normal mental activity remains the same, which depresses her in a terrible way, as she has the will to do things but she can't. The fact that she falls frequently doesn't help as she broke both her legs during the last two years (one first, then the other) and was about 14 months in a wheelchair (she has no sense of balance, so she can't use supports (?))

Elmo, to me you are a normal guy with a great hobby. I didnt notice your autism and i am not going to look at you in any other way from now on. I did notice a bit of your fanatism, but that should be no problem.
In this hobby you achieved alot with your big effort to enter as much notes as possible, producing lots of hits and thus making lots of people happy with those hits.
You gotta watch out with carrying so much cash around, but your clever enough to stay safe.
You are just a great guy that i get to know better now since we are organising the next Dutch meeting 9 days from now. I also understand better now that you are capable of knowing the missing shortcodes to serial numbers.
Oh yeah, apart from also being asthmatic i dont have a handicap myself (that i am aware of).

I think it is best for EBT that you know this: if co-EBT'ers are going to meet
me at a meeting and notice I don't talk that much sometimes some of them
might start thinking I am some sort of c*cksøcking aßhole, don't want to
have a hit with me, and therefore quit EBT as long as my bills are in the
database...

My little sister has the Down syndrome and she has been operated as a baby because her heart was weak.
I have atopy. It means that my skin is very dry and itchy. Very many reasons can cause itching: my hair, too much lotion, too little lotion, too little washing, too much washing, dirt, sweat, heat, make-up, sunshine... It's now worst in the scalp, right arm and shins. Best wishes to other atopics here.
