When you want to see all you notes where you wrote "ATM" in your comment, you can use the search function "comment: ATM".
And "city: wien" gives you all notes you entered in cities which contain "wien" (not only Wien, but also Wiener Neustadt).

But I wonder if it's possible to search the same way for a specific value. I've tried "€: 10" or "value: 50", but these don't work.
Is it possible to look for a specific value?

Not that way.

The prefixes you can use are defined here and in fact they don't include anything like "value" or "denomination".

The way to look for notes of a certain value is to order them by value and then scroll until you find those you're looking for.

I am not certain whether this was intended by the software developers or was simply forgotten.

Nice bug for Aspik!

He entered today 493 notes, but is not seen in the last 30 days!

Today:
6 :flag-si: aspik [not seen in past 30 days] + 493

I have not looked up if this is the case here, but if two user accounts get merged, the "last active" field does not get properly updated in the process. This situation gets fixed when the new merged user enters a note.

This means you entered more notes than 100,00% of all EBT users and are currently on rank 3!

If Prochrist is number 1 and vermeer at 3; who is at number 2?

For some reason the in-session counter of entered notes does not match what is in the user database. Logging out and logging in again should clear this problem.

Lighttpd 1.4.42 was released a week ago. It has been running on the development server for a few days now. I have also kept an eye on the lighttpd development community since 1.4.42 was released, and I have not seen any mention of bugs that would affect us, so I'm planning to upgrade our main web server to 1.4.42 early tomorrow morning. If you see something odd tomorrow that might be related to the upgrade, please let me know.

Well, that didn't last long. Lighttpd 1.4.43 has just been released and it promises to fix even more bugs. I will update to that version early tomorrow morning.

edit: Apparently there are some packaging bugs (not actually lighttpd bugs but EPEL bugs). I'm postponing this operation until the EPEL guys get their package working as it should. For the nerds: lighttpd does not start if the optional lighttpd-mod_authn_mysql package is not installed.
edit2: There is apparently a lighttpd bug as well, affecting SCGI applications. This does not affect EBT, but I suppose it will need to be fixed, resulting in yet another release in the near future. So let's wait for 1.4.44.

Unrelatedly, there is an announcement that may or may not affect us:
We are performing scheduled network maintenance in the Helsinki datacenter between 2016-11-01 22:00 UTC - 2016-11-02 04:00 UTC. The network maintenance may affect customer connections for a few minutes at a time. The maintenance will improve the reliability and performance overall.
It is possible that our server is not affected by this at all, but if EBT is not reachable tonight, you know what's going on. If you run into connectivity problems, try again after a few minutes.

edit: Looks like we were unavailable for up to two minutes shortly before midnight CET.

This is happening again tonight and also on Wednesday 23rd.

The Development WG has finished a major project to change how EBT accesses its own database. The goal of this project was to minimize EBT's exposure to various SQL injection attacks.

There are now some 1280 places in the code that access the database, and nearly all of them had to be modified somehow during this process. Some of the changes were trivial, some others needed some more thinking and refactoring. 299 files were modified.

Although the changes were tested extensively on a separate test site for two weeks by other board members and members of all workgroups (not just Dev WG), it is possible that you may run into something that no longer works as expected. Please let us know if you find any oddities so we can fix them.

As some of you may have noticed, EBT was down today between 03:40 and 09:40 CET. I will issue a post mortem analysis when I've gathered some more data. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Some spambot from Ukraine bombarded EBT with various requests last night. The spambot classification came from the referring URL (that is stored in the access log), which points to some "search engine optimization" site.

Unfortunately that spambot happened to hit a few pages that are slower to process, and as a consequence, the web server process exceeded its configured maximum number of running PHP processes. Normally this wouldn't cause any particular problems, but we're running lighttpd 1.4.43 (newest released version) which suffers from a bug that crashes the web server process when that limit is reached.

The fix is included in the current development version of lighttpd. Although it's always a bit of a hassle to do this, I'll compile my own version of lighttpd that includes this fix. I have also blocked the IP address of the Ukrainian bot.

.. or at least that was my best theory. Looks like there was an old bug (not my bug!!) in one of the nightly run maintenance scripts, and the recent database layer changes made the bug surface.

The net effect of this bug was that the maintenance script locked some database tables, but couldn't proceed with the maintenance because it handled the locked tables incorrectly, leaving the tables in a locked state. This in turn caused various problems for all other use of the database, and eventually lighttpd crashed due to the number of waiting connections (see above message).

I was able to reproduce the problem on the development server, and the bug has now been fixed. You night owls should be able to enter notes at night again.
