EBT beta feedback (2)

Post by Nerzhul »

Hi,

It took me a while, but the next big features are finally ready for public testing. If you want to try them out, simply go to

http://en.beta.miuku.net

The update focuses mainly on new information in user, city and country profiles and adds another kind of statistic to EBT - interconnection between profiles by "hit connections".

Most importantly, when you are logged in (and had at least one unmoderated hit) you see how YOU are connected to the profile you're looking at.

My general intention is to emphasize more on the social network aspect of EBT. This feature helps users to explore profiles and maybe feel more connected/belonging to our community :-)

Right now I don't want to provide more information but would like you to explore the beta site yourself. I'm looking forward to your feedback and hear about your first impression and experience.

Does the help system provide you sufficient information? Were there any confusing points?

Additionally, you can see the hitpartners of individual profiles and even filter them down to those you have in common with this user/city/profile. Users are able to opt-out of this statistic through their account settings.

Looking forward for your feedback,

Nerzhul

PS: I disabled note insertion on the beta page because users were abusing public beta tests in the past.
PPS: Translations aren't finished for all languages yet, so some english texts might still appear depending on your language settings.

Looks nice, the only thing is: I can't view the rankings of the cities.
I collect Airplane Safetycards, could you help me collecting them?
If you got some, PM me!

It works great, it's really more interesting now, more information on the statistics.

I just miss when it says "you have xx hitpartner in common", that it does not provide a link to the hitpartner(s).

Still, a lot of improvements, and working fine so far as I tried.

I need to explore it more deeply, but until now it seems very good, the connections between cities and users, some NIG stats implemented ( hitpartners, my cities, search by short code ... )
Great job, i`ll let you know as soon as i get more into it
Thanks a lot.

ps - by the way ... no chance to get the most interesting serials (each user getting their own???)

well done Nerzhul.

I particularly like the way 2 users can be connected to each other through hits without having a hit between them.

interesting stuff going on! first of all good job!

To start with, at the page "user X is connected with 59 other users" like...
It seems to me this is just generated by the last 5 hits you have. I don't know if it's possible but you could maybe state the 5 hits with the sum of both distance and time... the 5 hits with the greatest sum would appear on your profile as there is a good chance that are the most interesting aswell.

(in your case the hit on top would be this one: http://nl.beta.miuku.net/notes/?id=5758021)

If you look at your own country you can now see how many hits for instance the Netherlands has with for instance Ireland. As this could be generated maybe it's possible to make the number (in this case 11) a link to all those Netherlands-Ireland hits. A bit like this: http://nl.eurobilltracker.eu/notes/?command=8;tab=4 (clickable numbers which lead you to an overview of all those 11 hits)
So you have a nice overview of all the hits between certain county's and not only national and international.

improving the website is key to get as many people as possible interested. you might add some of the lists which are currently only on the forums. You might trigger some extra people in country's like Ireland and Greece. Some things which are now only in NIG. however this will prob. generate lot's of cpu usage..

your work is very appreciated by all of us, im sure of that!

Ps, be aware that some people might find it difficult to navigate to all those stats, there are already many of them, I sometimes search for quite some time to find certain specific stats like this one: http://nl.eurobilltracker.eu/rankings/? ... ancement=2

Hi all,

I like the improved statistics but not the "connected users" feature. Can you implement some tool to disable this in the public profile?

TIA, tralla

Hi! The idea of showing the interconnection is really a great idea: EBT is a network, not a sum of sigle profiles.

I just spended a lot of time exploring how much I was far from several users, and I founded I little "bug": when the connection is very long, it is not showed.

For example this is my connection with Presidente

claudio vda ← bhoeyb ↔ hoppa ← Presidente-Alex77 & the hit lost

Presidente have an hit with GHIRO85PISA, but when I look in his profile, it says to me

no connection found

Indeed, but that's working as intended. The way hitchains are currently calculated 4th degree connections have a very bad worst case computation behaviour (so bad that some queries take 10+ minutes to compute).

Therefore the system currently caps connections at 3 degrees.

Thank'you for the quickly answer. :D

I am not shure to have understand (the fault is my approximative English): you said that for the moment we have not connections more far from the 4th degree for computational problems, but I didn't understand if that will be risolved or not (I am sorry I am sorry I am sorry) .

Maybe if will not be possible to calculate longer hitchains for those problems you said is better to write no connection shorter than the 4th degree found , in this way the user knows that maybe there is one and he can look for it.

Hi Nerzhul and all,

I want to point out that I'm happy with the "connected users" feature *within* the community.

*But* I can disable my hits or stats in my public profile and I want this to be possible for this feature, too. Call me paranoid, I don't care, but it's also a matter of consistence. If I disable hits - maybe on a fine-grained level - I wouldn't want them to show indirectly via "connected users".

Hope I've made myself clear. If not, Nerzhul, do send me a PM.

Cheers, tralla

Hi tralla,

Hmmm, I don't really see a privacy concern. The only information it provides is to show that one user has had a hit with another one. This data is not combined with any location or time data. You really only get the information that one user DID have a hit with another one. Moreover, it is not aggregated if you don't want to (i.e. if you disable the public listing of your hitpartners), so it qualifies more like public information, like the number of notes you entered.

Hi again,

hm, I disabled the hit partners but the connected users still show.

Basically, I think one should have a means to enable or disable any stat in the public profile. Different people may have different concerns on what data they want to show.

Cheers, tralla

Well the connected users can't be disabled, in contrast to this general statistics how many bills of which denomination have been entered. It would be nice if this feature could also be added, as I can chose to show or hide the note/value table...
One Currency, one Union, one Eurobilltracker...
