100€ with strange mark visible only to scanner

Post by jurmerian »

Hi,

I´m new to the forums. I have been googling but didn´t find the answer to this mark. We I found you, I thougt that maybe you could help me.

This 100€ note, has all the standard marks but it has a new one:

only visible with a infrared scanner, a circle of about 1cm diameter near one corner with a "G" decentered in it.

Do you know what is that mark? what does mean?

Regards

I don't know anything like that, and I also don't know how my notes look under IR light as I don't have an IR light scanner. But people often make stamps on euro notes

I guess it's a normal chopmark, like all marks posted in "stamped notes" topic, only visible under infrared lights.

It doesn't show in all the 100 notes, just this one.

If it is really an IR stamp it should be visible for a usual (Video-)Camera as most chips used in these Cameras are IR sensitive to improve recordings in dark enviroments.
If the mark does not show up then try to light it by Infrared light (you should have a IR LED in your home - just check your tv and hifi remote controls for LEDs ;) ). They are usually pulsed when pushing a single button but that could be visible to your camera in a dark enviroment...just try around. If it does not get visible it might be some UV marking visible to UV light. Well I don't know any common UVlight sources in todays households...

However, I heard that some banks out of the Eurozone mark Eurobills as some kind of 'insurance': If a bill is marked by that bank the personal doesn't need to check the bill again for validity. Like this they can distinguish between those bills they accepted (and are real) and those they did not accept until now (and thus maybe faked). So if you get a bill - let's say somewhere in the middle east - and want to pay with it at the local bazar, but the dealer refuses that bill as he pretends it was 'faked' you can go back to the bank you got it from and exchange it for a new bill. However, going to another bank may cause problems as the bill doesn't bear the banks marking...
So you might have got a :note-100: that once was outside the Eurozone.
