EBT mobile

Post by Nerzhul »

Today I would like to present the latest addition to EBT - EBT mobile (m.eurobilltracker.com), a version of the website optimized for mobile phones.

EBTm is still in the alpha stage though, so use it on your own risk. At the moment there's only a form for entering notes, but more functionality (e.g. personal and global stats) will follow. I will also try to extend compatibility to more devices and localize for more languages. For now only English is available.

The mobile site requires a fairly modern browser. It works and is tested on iOS (iPod touch, iPhone) and Android (2.1+, Samsung Galaxy S), plus all major desktop browsers except IE. Opera mini and all versions of IE < 9 most likely won't work. I haven't tested yet with Firefox mobile.

I'm looking forward to all kinds of feedback. If you want to report a bug or other issue, please include your mobile phone, OS and browser version. I'm especially looking for testers who are willing to work closer with me for a while and give more rapid feedback in private. I only have access to a limited range of phones for testing and fixing/working around bugs in the standard browser of certain phones can be quite difficult...

Looks good on my HTC desire.

When logged in you need to hit 'back' to go to your entering form. this seems a little bit odd.

Furthermore. It would be great if the field where you fill out the short code and serial will recognize if a number or letter is needed. For instance. If i want to fill out L037g1 on my HTC. It will do LpeuGq by default. Of course i can use the fn key but it would be good if this can be changed. (same principle as the iphone app).

That's it so far. Didn't really test more since there are no notes to enter for me at this point.

Great!!

Loads fine in my N97mini, Symbian S60r5, BrowserNG/7.1.4 (huh, I hadn't looked into that until now ).

Count on me with that.

I fired up the page while reading your post. The first loaded content showed that I wasn't logged in, as expected, then I kept reading the post and when I looked at the phone again, it had recognized me as dserrano5. It seems it picks up the cookie from the main site, which I had already used before.

In "Previous locations", the initial quote from the dutch city 's-Hertogenbosch is correctly detected.

Some items require a double click, I don't know if that is imposed from the web page, or if the phone does it to keep consistency with the rest of the system and application menus.

In "Form presets", I have trouble entering the final digit. To enter "L077A1" I do the following:
- Press L
- Press and hold P, which renders a 0 in this phone.
- Press and hold U, which renders a 7 in this phone.
- Do that again.
- Press A.
- Press and hold Q to get a 1, but the 1 doesn't appear and I get a Q which is automatically selected (in the sense of text selection for copy-pasting). To actually get a 1, I have to press the shift key so that all keys generate their corresponding numbers and symbols without the need to hold them. This happens both in Short code and Serial fields. Again, I don't know if that's a bug in the site of the phone.

It would be nice to have a button "Enter notes" from the "Form presets" page, so that users don't have to go back to find the option.

Thanks for this improvement, and keep up the good work!

Count me in, maybe i can help you. On my HTC Desire it looks great! The EBT new note app is not what i was looking for, this offers a great alternative.

Did this new m.euro.... kill the simple mobile version of the site?

Can't seem to get a sessionid for a note, eventhough login oke shows up in the display.

With regards to the new mobile site the following:

On my simple (non smart) phone I can enter my name and password, but none of the butons work (login/submit..)

Hmmm. Once jQuery mobile hits beta stage I'll port the EBT mobile page to this framework. They offer much better support and compatibility across various platforms than the custom mixture of iUI and jQuery UI I'm currently using.

In short, just a little more patience ;-)

Tried this today on a Blackberry Curve 9300, it did not work.
The page loads OK and shows that I am not logged in, but does not respond to any command I try.
I can only exit to another site or leave the browser.
