Re: 50 cent DESTROYED OR FAKE?
You could test with a magnet. 10, 20 and 50 cent coins are not particularly magnetic. 1e and 2e coins are somewhat magnetic, and 1, 2 and 5 coins are much more magnetic. See if your coin behaves like other 10, 20, 50 cent coins in this regard.

Non magnetic, so it is just destroyed I guess...

Coins in that condition are more common in other countries. A few kilometres from my home, in Morocco, dirham coins are sometimes so faded that you can hardly see the face of the king, but those are coins that have been in circulation for 30 or 40 years. In India it's even worse, as their coins begin to erode after only a few years in circulation.

That 50c coins reminds me of the Lempira coins I used to have when I was living in Honduras in the 80's. In 86/87 you where able to find pretty easily coins from the 30's in very bad shape. Some in much worse condition than that 50c coin. More recently I've found in circulation here in Portugal euro coins from 99/00 in very bad shape/conditions. It's like people say: They don't build them like they used to.

the italian 50 cent 2002 is a popular fake one , I had one years ago from a customer , as he had trouble since the vending machine would not take it , the vague detail made it obvious fake

Re: 50 cent DESTROYED OR FAKE?
So how do you tell fake coins apart from heavily used coins?
I have some coins myself, 2€, 1€ and 10c(!), which are similar to this one. The 2€ coins do have good edge lettering. And a 10c coin should not be fake, the official statistics never mention counterfeits under 50c.
But to me the details of your coin don't look so bad (the edges of the stars for example), so I think it is just used.

Very bad test, counter question: why should a too soft metal be magnetic? I don't think fakers ever use magnetic metals unless they want to make good counterfeits of magnetic coins.WladislaW wrote:Non magnetic, so it is just destroyed I guess...
