What a pity that I didn't check that out when I saw a set of actual minted coins in Bank of Estonia's museum in Tallinn :(. (On the other hand, I can't remember if the edge was visible or if the coins were embedded in velvet notches.) But we'll see soon. There's a countdown going on here.

Sounds like a fine idea. Especially as I know someone who moved up there about a month back.

Not much info there, but OK for a "commercial" on television. The video, plus some background info, can be found here too:
http://euro.eesti.ee/EU/Prod/Euroveeb/M ... knotes.jsp
The English that the background voice speaks sounds extremely British. ;) Then again I do not speak Estonian or Russian, the other two languages that the videos are available in ...

PS - I forgot to mention that according to the Estonian central bank the edge inscription of the €2 coin will be the country name, EESTI, in alternating orientation, divided by stars. That means you can read it no matter which side of the coin is up.

So, the woman's walking from Forssa (the most boring city in Finland) to Paldiski (the most fascinating forgotten concrete slab city in Estonia) on the 500 € bridge? :)

Otherwise all the gates are in the countries' capitals, but the Finnish one is in Tampere. Is that because it used to be the best place in the world to score EBT hits in 2004?

Although I'm having my fun nitpicking here, the video's really nice! :)

And I thought the lines were supposed to connect countries, not just some cities ...

OK, now I had another look at those lines and gates. The gate that is apparently supposed to represent Germany is not in Berlin either, but somewhere near Kassel and Eisenach methinks. Ha!

Some information about how and when you can exchange krooni into euro cash:

(1) In Estonia
* For two weeks, between 1 and 15 January, both the old and the new coins and notes are accepted as means of payment. You will usually get your change in euro. After that, only the euro cash will be legal tender.
* For a period of six months, all banks that deal with currency exchange will change krooni into euro free of charge. After that time, selected branch offices will continue that service for another six months.
* And if you still have or find EEK cash after that, no problem: The central bank (Eesti Pank) has an unlimited redemption policy. So you can always bring your old cash in and get new cash back.

(2) In other Euro Countries
* The national central banks in the euro area will exchange EEK notes, at the official rate (€1 = 15.6466 krooni) and free of charge, into euro cash for two months.
* The limit is €1,000 per customer and day; kroon coins cannot be exchanged this way. As the branch offices of those central banks are usually closed on weekends and holidays, you can get your EEK notes exchanged between 3 January and 28 February.
