GOOD 9 MAY, EUROPE DAY
In Germany "Europe Day" used to be 5 May, referring to the foundation of the Council of Europe. Later 9 May was added - and while that is now the day when public buildings etc. are flagged, the two days turned into a Europe Week of about ten days. Over here (Düsseldorf) it has almost been a Europe Week: On 3 May President Barroso was here; on 9 May there were mostly discussions and concerts, and tomorrow will be a big party ...
... except that, after a few gorgeous weeks in April, the weather is currently lousy. Grmpf. Let's see if good food and good music can make up for that.
