I heard from my friend that the Evenes airport atm is the same one that earlier located in Sjøkanten mall in Harstad, it was moved some time of this year to the airport.

You have it right that it costs to withdraw euros here, but I prefer to do it sometimes to have something to register in Ebt. Not too much, I could not get passive hits with my euros still at home :) To take them at atm and to change back in bank would destroy my economy.

I know this thread is about euro cash dispensers outside the euro zone but still I would like to encourage changing your notes without the help of ATMs as consulting local people personally can give so much more (in social and ebting dimension) than just playing with the ATMs. It's always good to communicate with the people in the places you are visiting and the better you get in contact with local people the easier for you it is to get your euro notes changed to smaller euro notes.

In Estonia (outside euro zone) people are always very friendy if you speak English to them. And in most of the cases they are happy to change your 50 euro note (or bigger) to smaller ones if you dare to ask for it and if they have small euro notes. This might have something to do with the fact that in some of the exchange booths there they give you better rate if you change with 50 euro note or bigger. And at least in the biggest hotels they are quite happy to get rid of the extra euro fivers as it takes too long to count them after their work shift, I guess. See these hits for example: http://en.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=68106158" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , http://en.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=68106156" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . I wasn't even staying in that hotel that time but in a spa nearby. And I changed not more than about 25 notes there by the way as long as I can recall.

In some non euro zone countries they just wish to get rid of the small euro notes. Two years ago in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, I had a stop at the international airport during my flight from India to Finland. In the tax free shop I could pay with euro (with 50 euro notes in my wallet as the smallest at the time) but as I did not want to get local money or US dollars back, I had to find a place where to change. There were two options, official looking money exchange office with no understanding whatsoever to change just a minor sum of euro with my 50 euro note. Fortunately there was also a lousy looking exchange kiosk there too. I managed to change about 80 euro fivers there, with a 50 euro note at a time.

For both of us, the clerk and me, it was a kind of practical joke as I went there again and again to change still another 50 euro note to fivers. The clerk never really got it as he didn't understand English well enough to get idea of EBT, but we got big laughs both of us for my irrational behavior. And I got those notes free of exchange commission. Unfortunately all the notes were in bad shape and as a rule that means they won't survive in Finland too long as the Finnish banks are so eager to send dirty notes to the Central Bank of Finland to be destroyed. None of the notes have been found yet and never will I'm afraid. Still the point is that there must be more exchange places outside the euro zone where they have the problem with all those small euro notes. Can you imagine the problem of too many euro fivers! You should try to find these places instead of ATMs outside the euro zone I think. At the international airport of Sharjah in that particular exchange booth there was left 15 cm thick bundle of old dirty euro fivers for anyone to go there and change them free of charge.

Still I'm not saying ATMs outside the euro zone should be neglected though there are better options. All the hobbies cost you money and the exchange costs resulting from EBT are minimal compared to the costs of almost any other hobby.

Yours

Hello all,

I am a student in Poland, and i use a prepaid EURO travel card. I have my fees deposited in the same card, the problem now is that the rates for EURO-ZLOTY(polish currency) has gone really low, i mean i get really less zloty for 1 euro. And i can only go to bankomats(ATM) which obviously gives worst rates.

i read about the EURO dispensing ATM at warsaw AIRPORT in this forum, found it motivating, but again dont know if the bank would first convert to ZLOTY and then back to EURO, if so then it doesnt make any sense for me.

I have EURO in my account. so the card i hope would be considered the same by an ATM as any euro zone card having euros in it.

Please help. I am really losing like 1500 zloty if i withdraw right now to pay my fees. And for a student its a big amount.

Any other way around? thinking of travelling to berlin just to get cash out. And then exchanging it with a local Money exchange here in warsaw. But i personally want a way out of it , not by travelling to berlin ofcourse.

Kindly help.

Regards

You could go to your bank and ask them to transfer the money from that card to your normal Polish bank account. Not necessarily impossible, because the money is not really on the card, but on a bank account.

I have no idea about the other questions, but if you decide to go to Germany to withdraw the money, don't go all the way to Berlin. There are many cities at the Polish-German border, where you can just walk over the border to Germany and use an ATM there. That way you will save a lot of time and money. Some examples:
Zgorzelec -- Görlitz
Gubin -- Guben
Słubice -- Frankfurt
Kostrzyn nad Odrą -- Küstrin-Kietz (here you will have to walk 4km between the towns, You can also go the 4km by a train that goes once per hour.
Świnoujście -- Ahlbeck (5km walk, but also a bus connection exists)

The city on the German side doesn't have to be big at all, there are bank automats everywhere. You can find them by writing "Sparkasse" or "Volksbank" (names of two banks you often find even in small villages) in the search field of google maps. At least Volksbank ATMs should always have 5 euro notes.
Also keep in mind that also Slovakia uses the euro. If you happen to live closer to Slovakia than Berlin, you can do a similar trick over there.

And as the last thing: Hitchhiking is super easy in Poland. Do go at least to one direction by hitchhiking :)

Would be nice if someone could gather all the tips in here to the first message...
Still nothing in Heathrow T5... :(
Lots of Travelex and Thomas Crook branches, but none with a euro ATM...

I will soon investigate whether or not Zurich Airport has euro ATMs...

Zurich Airport had Euro ATM's, but they worked only with Swiss credit cards. Atleast that was the case in last summer. I used Travelex instead.

Not only at Zurich Airport but every swiss ATM gives euro all around the country.
Unfortunately only with swiss cards.

But you can change euros to an other euro denomination in a many post offices.

Yes, almost all ATM. But you must have a swiss card to be able to take the euro.

I have seen a foreign currency ATM in Hong Kong last summer. The machine in question dispensed CNY, JPY, USD and EUR banknotes. Unfortunately it only works with HSBC Hong Kong cards... but the screen did indicate it only dispensed :note-100: bills 8O 8O

I found out 2 € cash dispenser at Birmingham airport (Terminal 1) which gives both GBP and EUR to everyone.
One is in the waiting are, before the metal detector (next to a USD / GBP cash machine!) and the other one is next to gate 47 in the departure hall!

Regarding swiss, I confirm all ATM have EUR both only for swiss bank card holders!
I collect and swap 2€ CC, PM for swap!!!!

Image Washington Dulles Airport has a euro ATM, across from gate C26X. The ATM you're looking for is from Travelex, dispenses only :note-100: , and charges USD 7,95 for any transaction other than USD

From my recent travels:

Almost every bank branch in Oslo has an ATM that dispenses USD and EUR, SEK and DKK are also very common. Oslo Central Station has a whole row of Nordea ATMs that have USD/CAD/EUR/SEK/DKK/EEK/CNY/TRY/THB/GBP and possibly a few others. Commission is around 35 NOK and your bank account is charged in NOK but they take international cards.

A large number of ATMs in Switzerland also have EUR in them as well, but as many people have stated before they are for Swiss cards only. Most of them give :note-50: but I have seen UBS and CS machines that indicated they gave :note-100: ATMs that accept deposits also take EUR banknotes in as well.

P.S. For Swiss cards, I found out that most banks charge EUR 3.50 to make a EUR withdrawal from a EUR account in the same bank!

Do they do that in Switzerland to make money laundring through Swiss banks harder, or what's the deal?

I am currently in Sweden for a few months and here there are plenty of ATMs that claim to have euro notes available. As I tried it out I found that such ATMs don't work at all (not even with Swedish crowns) when I tried to use them with cards with both debit and credit properties. With an only-debit card the ATM would have given out Swedish crowns but not euros. Probably the system does accept only Swedish cards but it was really a disappointment.
