The program you used for finding out the ghost char thing probably has different font or different font spaces from what they are in web browsers. That means the letters are either further away from each other or closer to each other than "in reality".
Since different people have different fonts anyway (depending on their operating system (possibly even windows version) and web browser), playing with ghost characters like you've done can almost never work correctly.

Well, if it does, it wasn't supposed to. I used widths for Tahoma Bold and I am almost 100% sure that the font I'm seeing here is indeed Tahoma (Bold when "bolded", of course ). In fact I have no idea why it should be Tahoma, since my browser (Firefox) is set to use Arial as default, and I can't see Tahoma mentioned on the Page Source. But I checked carefully letter by letter, and double-checked on Identifont, Linotype's Font Finder and Jacci Howard Bear's "Lookalike Fonts". I'm guessing that Tahoma is part of phpBB's subSilver style, since I see exactly the same on both Firefox and IE6.0.

Since different people have different fonts anyway (depending on their operating system (possibly even windows version) and web browser), playing with ghost characters like you've done can almost never work correctly.

You may have a very good point here. I just assumed it would be the same for everyone because, as I said, I see the same on both Firefox and IE6.0...

What a moron I am! It is Verdana, not Tahoma! Just open it in Word... Well, obsessed as I am, now I may insist on doing this with Verdana's widths...

I don't mind so much about the allignment. but what bothers me is the characters that can still be seen if you use a different background.

Then why not change the text colour depending on the background colour? It's not a big deal.

Because when someone quotes it, it gets a different background color and you can see it again...

That's a problem only with content that someone might want to quote. And even then, you can just add a small text line in the end, telling what the quoter must do to make the things invisible again.

kenne ein Forum in dem die Befehle table, row und col zur Verfügung stehen, vielleicht sollte man die hier auch zur Verfügung stellen, damit kann man Tabellen erstellen.
