Portugese Bank account

Post by Flanconfx »

Hi
I just moved form Germany to Portugal. Now I need a bank account. Here are a lot of Banks. I was at Novo Banco but i think it had bad conditions. I unfortunately speak no Portuguese yet. it is difficult to compare the banks.

I would like to ask if somebody knows which bank has good conditions for a low wage giro account and is maybe also helpful for eurobilltracking? :)

Welcome to Portugal.

No bank I know of is helpful for eurobilltracking more than any other.

A bank with easy access to foreigners is ActivoBank. Everything is done online, so the fees charged are smaller than in other banks. You may find inconvenient that they only have very few physical locations (they're open until late nevertheless).

Check them out here: http://www.activobank.pt/en/public/prod ... epage.aspx

To check where they are, find "Our locations" at the bottom of their homepage.

If you have vast amounts of money maybe you should choose your bank based on different criteria though. The banks less prone to collapse are, arguably:

Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD)
Banco BPI
and maybe Montepio Geral

Good luck.

Well, it's maybe not so easy banking, but if you have kept your German bank account, it shouldn't cost more to transfer to Portuguese accounts than to German ones, it would only take more time...

Bem vindo!

Carlos

Thank you for your answers.

I checked these banks, but it seems every bank needs a número de identificação fiscal. I tried to get it but I were advised not to order this if it is strongly needed because it could lead to many problems having it as a foreigner. I work as a volunteer and can get my money in cash.
So it is the best for me to make an account in Germany.

Anyway. i am happy to be here. It is so beautiful and people here a so very friendly. I hope i get many hits here in the future :)

I see that you have an amazing hit ratio. Get ready for that to change, depending on how many notes you register here. Bem-vindo!

Portugal isn't great for hits, but still many times better than Spain or even France, I'd guess. Anyway, a big user can help tilt the balance a bit...

Hi. Welcome. I see you are working and approaching to Coimbra. :D I hope you get many hits with me...

I just defined the coordinates for the notes you registered in Poços (2050-145), but the correct city name and postal code are Sítio dos Poços (2050-180). Maybe you want to correct your notes.

The same for Rio Alcaide. The correct postal code is 2480-170.

Ok. If you have questions about city names or postal codes you can post them here and someone will help you.

  • You may find fivers ( :note-5: ) at some ATMs. Around 40 of those special ones are already mapped here.
Cafés and restaurants will be happy to exchange those for bigger denominations.
  • Anybody can go to the Central Bank's Treasure House (Rua do Ouro, 27 @ 38.708837, -9.137914) and exchange euro banknotes there (they'll give you uncirculated ones). You just have to present your ID.
  • The Money Museum is really worth a visit.
Enjoy your stay!

Thanks! Yes, I already exchanged several €5 in the bar of my hotel... Some might even end up in Italy, when hearing the other guests... I still have about 10 €5 left, no worries ;)
I suppose they don't have any special €2 for the moment at the Central Bank?
