Vote the date of the Summer EBTM08 in Ljubljana

I have to wait if my boss aproves my apply for my summer vacations before I am able to vote.
And after the democratic wheel has turned I am able to deside if it's possible to be at ETBM 2008 at all.
....but parts of my summer holiday plans also include Slovenia

One week remaining to vote -- 84 people have already voted.
An unfortunate fact is that it's simply impossible to find a date which would be suitable for everyone. If a date isn't suitable for you, please rank it below the other more acceptable options. I'm slightly concerned about votes like A>B. While that's a perfectly valid vote, the voting system doesn't know your preference about C, D or E. The "missing options" are not automatically given the lowest ranking. You can still update your vote if you wish.
EDIT: Erm, not quite, actually .. Read on for more information.

I think people who vote A>B don't care about C, D or E (not able to make those dates anyhow), so why should they vote for dates they cannot attend?avij wrote:One week remaining to vote -- 84 people have already voted.

Basically the dates with worst points are considered "impossible" by the voting algorithm.Crazy Bob wrote:I think people who vote A>B don't care about C, D or E (not able to make those dates anyhow), so why should they vote for dates they cannot attend?avij wrote:One week remaining to vote -- 84 people have already voted.

If you think that A is nice, B is okay and the rest are impossible, you should vote
A>B>C=D=E=F
If you vote A>B and nothing else, then the system understands your vote about this way:
A is possible, B is impossible.
Of course Avij could just assume that the empty ones would be considered lowest.
Therefore, if someone voted A>B, it would be translated to A>B>C=D=E=F by the server. But since that is not what happens right now, it would be a good idea for people mentioning the impossible dates, too.

But Dakkus, the point is:
A>B can also mean: "A yes, B no, C, D and E maybe".
Than it should be readed as: A>C=D=E>B.
So you can't just assume, the possibilities not voted are the least liked.

as I understand the condorcet counting website, if you enter A>B, it implies A>B>C=D=Eeddydevries wrote:A>B ... should be readed as: A>C=D=E>B.
for example, if you enter:
B>A
C>A
D>A
E>A
F>A
A wins

Interesting, androl is indeed apparently right. The votes
B>A
C>A
D>A
E>A
and
B>A>C=D=E
C>A>B=D=E
D>A>B=C=E
E>A>B=C=D
seem to give equivalent answers (verbosity: Tell me everything). This is a slightly unexpected side effect, but given the current situation, I don't think this will harm the integrity of the vote. This "feature" will need to be taken into account in the next polls, though. I'd still recommend ranking each option explicitly, just to avoid any ambiguities.
As for the decision making process, any actual decisions regarding the date poll for Summer EBTM08 have been and will be made by b100w11 & co. I'm merely a technical assistant in running the poll, having written the scripts residing in /vote.

Re: Vote the date of the Summer EBTM08 in Ljubljana
I'm sorry to ask, but with "midnight" it has two possibilities (because it's the border between two days).b100w11 wrote:The poll will run until midnight of Sunday the 27th January 2008.

Do you mean the midnight starting 27th January (like I usually think), or the midnight ending the 27th January?
If it's the first one: the "lines are closed", so we know which dates have won.
If it's the second one: there are a few hours left to vote (and we can advertise for people to vote).
