S-EBTM10 Florence: general informations

Post by claudio vda »

S-EBT meeting 2010 in Florence, Italy
Draft of the program (more details will be added in the next weeks)

Friday 23th of July 2010
Pre-meeting: it is probable that many people will arrive in Florence during the afternoon, so we can organize something of unufficial during the evening: a pizza, for example.

Saturday 24th of July 2010
Day dedicated to the visit of the town. A tour will be organized across Florence and its main monuments, the tour will take the whole morning and part of the afternoon. Packed launch.
Evening: social dinner with typical food and wines from Florence and the environnments.

Sunday 25th of July 2010
Day dedicated to the general assembly. The assembly will be organized in the hall of an hotel in the downtown; we will start at 10;00 and we hope to end at 13;00, then we will have a soft launch (buffet) in the same hotel.
The afternoon will be free: banks are closed (alas!), but it will be possible to have shopping or to visit the “Uffizi” museum (prenotation needed)

Monday 26th of July 2010
Post-meeting: if someone would like to enjoy a little bit more Tuscany, we can travel to Pisa (about 1h by train), visiting the leaning tower and its the Middle-Age downtown, having a tipical launch from Pisa and... visit some banks

Petty expenses (updated)
I am sorry, but I forgot IVA (an Italian taxation), now prices are correct

For the meeting
Monuments in Florence + assembly room + badge : 25 E /person
Saturday social dinner: 30 E /person
Buffet launch: 20 E /person
Total: 75 E/ person

For the post meeting
The train to Pisa is 5,70 E
The lunch in Pisa 22 E
Piazza dei Miracoli 8 E

Bank information
In Italy, banks are usually open from Monday to Friday. During the morning they are surely open from 8;30 to 13;00, sometime to 13;20. In the afternoon it may change from bank to bank, but usually it is something like 15;00-17;00.
If you want to go and change money, please have with you an identity document: somewhere is needed (but not everywhere).

I can imagine that the associatio meeting room fee will be paid by the assocation. I will suggest that at the next board meeting in april (with a limit of 200 EUR). Nevertheless I think if it is possible like i vienna, a free room is highly appriciated as we see here it is worth like a 200 eur donation, thus a big help to fund the association.

Personally, I think that something like 2,50-3,00 E is very few for a person who did a travel to Florence; on the other hand 200 E for the association are a big expense :? . It is for that reason that we programmed to divide the expense between the participants.

Other useful informations: traffic

The whole downtown of Florence is a restrict-access area. Map can be found here

There are several parkings, a list can be found here . It is in Italian  but it is quite basic: parcheggio = parking
Image
Here a screenshot of the italian page: in the list, you can find "parcheggio", and then the name, clicking on it you find the location on google map.
Price for day is always 18 E

The restrict-access area is controlled by cameras, but if you are hosted in a hotel or hostel in the downtown you are authorized to enter only two times (arrive and departures): every hotel/hostel have a different agreement with the municipality, so ask to your structure about its agreement.

That's no big surprise as it is a US-based company. But you can change to EUR-prices.
The delivery conditions might be the only thing to be worried about:
cafepress.com wrote:Economy 13-17 business days $7.00
Express 2-3 business days $30.00
It's not much time left until the meeting starts.
