W-EBTM 2013 Post your candidacy here!

Post by eddydevries »

Hello, it is October again and it is time again to start thinking about the Winter EBT Meeting of next year.

In this topic, you can volunteer to organize Winter EBT Meeting 2013. This topic will be closed on 25th of November (around 17:00 GMT / 18:00 CET / 19:00 EET), so the BoD can start to discuss about the candidates in the last week of November.

Due to the fact that the Winter EBT meeting 2012 was held on 27-28-29 April 2012 (you could better call it Spring than Winter) and there was a little time for the Summer meeting to be organized, the BoD wisches the Winter meeting to be organized not too late.
The best period would be in the winter, so up until the end of March.

Requirements/conditions/guidelines for organizers:
  • Two organizers or more. One will be appointed as the main organizer
  • The main organizer is at least 21 years old
  • The main organizer should be able to communicate in English
  • At least one of the organizers should have participated in an official international Eurobilltracker meeting
  • At least one of the organizers should live in or know the city where the event will take place very well
  • At least one of the organizers should have organized a national EBT meeting
Requirements/conditions/guidelines for candidate city:
  • The city should have a certain touristic appeal. International EBTM participants will stay for more than one day and they should be able to see more things than they will see on the meeting day.
  • The city should be located near an international airport.
  • The city should have a railroad station, preferable an international railroad station
  • There should be youth hostels nearby where people can stay cheap
  • There should be a few restaurants which are able to have a large group of people eating there or two/three restaurants located near each other which can handle some smaller groups.
Remember this a checklist. If a candidate doesn't match all of these conditions, it still can be a candidate to organize an official international eurobilltracker meeting.
Still, the more requirements a candidate-organizing team has, the more credibility the candidacy has.

Candidates place your candidacy here in this thread before 25th November. If you do so, give us the name(s) of the organizing team, the city you want to organize Winter EBTM13 in and the dates that you can organize it; a detailed schedule of the event is not needed, the big lines are appreciated.

Please, keep this thread for candidates only!

A little reminder here: it's half way the term to candacy.

If you're already discussing and planning, it's fine.

But if not, you've still some time to get ideas to organize a meeting.
Remember: you can also candidate if your idea doesn't compete ALL the conditions.

We would like to post the candidacy of Rouen :flag-fr: for Winter EBT Meeting 2013.
Organizers are: Vibeuf, Senga PSG and Claudio VdA. All the organizers are older than 21.

Rouen is an hystorical French town of about 110 000 inhabitants and it is the capital of the Haute-Normandie. The town is more than 2000 years old and it has an excellent touristic appeal: it is know as “the town with 100 belfries” and in the city center it is possible to admire several buildings and monuments of the Middle Age (like the cathedral of Notre Dame, the aître Saint-Maclou, the square of the Old Market and many others) or of the Baroque Age (like the astronomical clock), but it is also important to mention the church of Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc, daring building of the 20th century.

Connections
Rouen can be easily reached by car (highway A13) or by train (about 1 h by Paris) ; for people arriving by plane we suggest to use one of the several airport of Paris and then to join by train.

About the meeting
The meeting will be held in winter, but not between 14 February and 18 March (winter school holidays in France).
The meeting will be organized in a week-end, with a visit of the town, a pillage of the ATMs and a typical dinner in the oldest hotel of France (14th century!!!).

It's nice, we have a candacy.

But it's not too late for another city to candidate (it's a few years ago we could choose between cities).

You can post it all this week (up until next sunday).

just a look to the webpage of "hôtel de la couronne":

they have a certain sense of humour
after "salon Jeanne d'Arc" they mention "salon des rôtisseurs"  (for those who are not aware of french history; Jeanne d'Arc has been killed on the stake in Rouen!!!)

In know the French are rather... french, but 5 weeks of winter holiday is even too french for the French.
Winter holiday for Bretagne in 2013 is 23 February to 10 March.

I made a correction.

France is divided into 3 "school zone", holidays overlapping for each.
The holiday period extends for 5 weeks, but there is only 2 weeks per zone.
And this holydays focuses on children, not all French people. 8)

So what?
Italian schoolstudents don't have a so long holiday in Winter... so they can enjoy a really long Summer holidays

If you just calculate the total amount of hours pour year, they are about the same in all the EU: they are just organized in different ways due to the different climates ;)

If I remember correct:y this is a topic for posting a candidature, not to discuss it. It would be enjoyable to see if there are other candidates and then let the chosen organizers organize the meeting at best.

Thank you for respecting the volunteers.

Thank you Phaseolus, I couldn't tell it better.

Here's a last call: The deadline for posting a candacy is tomorrow 17:00 WET / 18:00 CET / 19:00 EET.

So you have just over 18 hours the time to candidate.

This candacy was discussed in the Board-meeting and it was approved.

So the next Wintermeeting will be held in Rouen.

Within a little time (1-2 weeks), the organising team will open a new topic concerning the possible dates for this meeting.
