Upcoming regional features

Post by Nerzhul »

Hello everyone,

EBT now supports additional administrative divisions of a country (Bundesländer, Provinces, Departements etc) which allows more interesting stats and rankings.

Countries can be structured and set up one by one, i.e. the Netherlands might already be divided into Provinces and appear in the new stats while France is still being worked on.

Our support team is currently busy setting up and structuring the data of various countries. For most countries this is a huge task since a lot of location data has to be assigned and cleaned up. We're currently focussing on the core Euro countries and have made good progress with Germany, Netherlands, Slovenia and Austria. These 4 countries will go live this weekend. Belgium, Finland, Italy and Spain will follow some time later.

We plan to add more and more countries over time. If you want to assist us, please submit a support ticket. We're especially looking for inhabitants of countries which aren't set up yet.

Initially only a few new stats are ready (new profiles for each new region) so you won't notice huge changes immediately. Just be patient - I'm full of ideas for new interesting stats and rankings, but this will take some time.

Looking forward to your feedback and suggestions,

Nerzhul

The extended administrative regions are now active for the following countries:
  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Germany
  • Netherlands
  • Italy
  • Slovenia
The new stats can be accessed through the country profiles. More stats (e.g. personal stats) and countries are coming soon!

Please note that at the moment these new stats are a bit in beta still. We are testing a new auto-translation feature (which might produce funny results in some places) and the performance for some stats may be slow.

Also regions of countries which are still being worked on may show up in the "featured hitpartner list", so if some parts of Luxembourg or Spain show up, remember, it's a feature not a bug ;-)

Moreover the comparability of regions across countries is still not optimal and will receive some attention in future. There are currently 3 possible levels and hitpartners are taken from the same level. But for some countries there now is an explicit Municipality layer while other incorporate these through city profiles.

Not all possible administrative divisions for all countries have been set up at the moment. We tried to concentrate on the most important and interesting region layers for the time being. For example Belgium is currently only divided into Provinces and Municipalities, but not the 3 Gewesten. At some point in future we'll find a solution to incorporate the additional region layers.

Spain and Luxembourg are active now, too.

France is almost ready. The team also started working on Greece today. If you want to assist us with further countries, just submit a support ticket or send us an email!

Meanwhile I've been busy with some additional personal stats (extension of personal entity rankings) which'll make use of the new data. They will be available in a few days :-)

Malta and France are active now, too. Greece, Slovakia and Cyprus are being worked on currently.

That makes Portugal and Finland the only big remaining Euro countries with no regions. We're still looking for volunteers ;-)

Last night new stats went online! Your personal note rankings have been extended to include the new region data.

Simply select "All regions level X" to show a ranking of regions from that level. By selecting a country only regions from that country are displayed and you can now quickly switch to other region layers from that country.

If your home country is already divided into regions the region layer names will be permanently available in the dropdown list for quick access. So e.g. a Dutch user would see Cities, Provinces, Municipalities, Countries etc., a Spanish user Cities, Communities, Provinces, Countries etc.

Btw Greece has been activated. If you want to help with the regional stats of your home country, please submit a support ticket.
