Yes, I'm originally from Erfurt, Germany , but I'm right now on a two-week holiday in Malta, so I changed my location.starcapitan wrote:Excuse me Maltese friends but I 'd like to understand the situation of user Math Murderer : he wazn't in the list of your island users and happeared suddenly.

Well, I'm back home. I brought exactly 912 bills to mainland Europe. The first 41 of those bills were spent/changed at the airport in Frankfurt, a further 60 were changed on the way home.Fons wrote:Have a nice holiday, MM !!!

I have never tried going to a bank to exchange notes even though I have an account there... I do want to try eventually but I'd love to hear of others' experiences first.
Meanwhile there has been another nice hit in Malta! Congrats to ewri and Sharatan3

I went to a total of 36 branches of the Bank of Valletta, HSBC and APS Bank while I was in Malta. In 34 branches the cashier changed money for me without asking any questions.debemaks wrote:Did you exchanged notes in the bank without problems having not a bank account there?
Two times (HSBC in Sliema, BOV in Birkirkara) I was asked whether I had an account with the bank.
In the Sliema HSBC I said that I was a tourist, and the cashier then changed money anyway.
In the Birkirkara BOV the cashier said that he could change money only for customers, but he offered me the possibility of opening a short-term current account, which I declined.
Overall I was very impressed by the service and the willingness to help from Maltese bank employees. It's quite a contrast to what I experience in Germany. Even at some branches of a bank where I have a current account, an insurance plan and several investments I'm usually asked to provide ID, sign a form or get told to go to another branch when I want to change money.
