This coin is the first of a series of five coins to be issued over a period of five years to commemorate major milestones in Malta's constitutional history. This first coin commemorates the election in 1849 of the first Maltese representatives to the Council of Government advising the British Governor. Malta had been a British colony since the 1814 Treaty of Paris. The centre of the coin shows a hand putting a vote into a ballot box. The words "Malta – First elected representatives 1849" are shown above.

Issuing volume: 430,000 coins.

Finally!!

It's not that bad, nothing special but at least we're issuing our first one.

Although, having checked the 5 commemorations only one of them, the fourth, seem to coincide with the for-a-"special"-anniversary with the issuing year. The other four will look just like they've been issued to remind us we've been through those events but not to commemorate a special anniversary of when they happened as well.

I wish/hope it'll be a nicely designed coin and not something like the french 2008 one.

Apparently it's the final design for our first :flag-mt: €2 commemorative coin. :| Although the design is nothing special and I don't like it that much I'm eagerly waiting to get hold of it, but it won't be before coming September or October.

According to Wekipedia we'll be minting 430,000 coins.
