You don't have to vote, Van Geel, you can still vote 'blanco'. The only obligation there is, is to go to the polling station, so nobody can keep you busy to prevent you from voting.
So there are things to say for it, but of course, it does look a bit silly...

Nobody goes to jail anymore, if you don't go to the ballot, most judges don't bother. People who were selected as chairman (you have to be able to read, so they mostly pick out teachers  ) or vote counter who don't show up without a good excuse, are prosecuted, but when convicted, they just get a fine...

The political compass from a few pages earlier gives me this result:
Economic Left/Right: -3.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.44

In Belgium, I vote mostly ecologist, which is a party to the left. But somehow, I can't help to disagree with this result.
I see myself as quite liberal, profit is not a crime, as some left people like to think (A slogan for the elections by the Belgian communist party PVDA was 'first the people, not the profit'). I'm a great supporter of a free market, albeit in an ecologically an socially regulated environment. I'm also a pacifist, but not necessarily an antimilitarist. And civil rights are very important to me, but safety is a civil right, too...

I voted anarchy, but left would do also. Also I have green ideas (just got huge solar panel, which is waiting for installation)
