Live in a foreign country

Post by Olivier »

I just wonder if you have ever lived in a foreign country. How long was your stay? Did you enjoy it? Would you like to do it again?

I am asking you these questions, because it's been for 2 years I'm living in Canada and Europe and France miss me, my relatives too... I often think about coming back, even if I like Quebec, Canada and the life here.

I'd like to read your experiments on it...

No but i'm sort of planning to!

Since i few months me and girlfriend are talking a lot about moving to Costa Rica... We would start some kind of a small hostel overthere and earn our money with renting rooms a give guided tours through the jungle for the tourists.

But if we ever really move, it will only be in like 5-10 years from now. First we have to earn a lot of cash before we can make this dream come true!

So enough time for me to enter a lot of notes in the database! :D

Good decision! It's very expensive to move on another continent.
If I came back to Europe, I would have to sell (again) all my furniture at a very low price. :?

I can keep this post in my mind, and just don't buy any expensive furniture from now on! :D

Hi

I don't have lived in an other country, but I always wanted to do it. I always thought that a person need to live for a while outside his city or country.

Maybe one of this year I could do that

Saludos!

I have lived in the following countries for over 6 months:

Italy
Germany
Austria
Australia
And of course Ireland

If I go abroad I like spending a few months there to really get a feeling for the place....
Also, if you spend some time abroad it makes you enjoy coming home even more!

I've never lived outside Finland. I'd like to, though.. Because I've got this dream of moving to the northern coast of the Mediterranean sea some day.
But.. I've got a girlfriend who's promised to force me to move to Lapland for the rest of my life some day.

I have never lived in a foreign country but I probably will. My Hungarian girlfriend has difficulties to find a job here as her Finnish is not fluent, and the diesel company I work for is closing our factory here by the end of the year. I would be one of those who are staying here as I'm working in the service department but I don't think the company will keep here such a small department. So, sooner or later, I will have to find a job anyway.

If my girlfriend doesn't manage to find a job here I think we won't be able to afford of living in Finland. We have been thinking of moving to UK or Ireland but we will just have to find a company which is looking for diesel service engineers and GIS specialists. :?

Ireland would be preferrable because of euro.

All of you know my incredibly wild story. Living in Hong Kong from when I was born to 13, living in Paris until the mid 20s, going to Hong Kong to do work for the government, going to France for another short perod, then Canada for 4 years and then France again. And here I am in Hong Kong, I would also love to go to Singapore for a while, since my mother is partially from there.

You should defintely consider coming to Ireland!
Not sure about getting a job though- I don't suppose this is what you're looking for?

Cheers for the tip! :D

I have to remember this site. :)

But unfortunately I can't say I have enough of understanding of electronic stuff. I can do simple troubleshooting and change sensors but for designing those systems I'd need a proper education or at least good experience about electronics. I'm more specialised on mechanical side. Actually, I'm automotive engineer BSc but I have been working on marine diesels and learnt things that way. They are almost the same as car engines but just the scale is a bit different.

The best side in engineering diploma is it doesn't really matter which field you have graduated. You get a good basic theoretical knowledge of physics at your school and then you can learn just anything what is needed.

I'd like to stay in marine industry if it's possible. I tried to find what kind of activities Rolls Royce has in Ireland but haven't found anything yet. I could also ask from my old classmate who works for Rolls Royce in Rauma.

Are there any shipyards in southern Ireland :?: I think there are none in Northern Ireland either as Harland & Wolff was recently closed down as far as I know.

about 20 years ago i wanted to live in denmark, cause i really like that country and language.
but now, in the early or mid 30`s, i have problems even to move to another city. my girlfriend lives in another city and she doesnt like my city and i don`t want to live in her city. big problem. but someday we have to make a decision.
if i wouldn`t have to work i would probably go to foreign country, but causo of my genealogical work i have a strong connection to my city/area
