I was just talking about the colours. Black is not the most happy one. Can't believe that you don't agree.

I'm not saying the Dutch flag is the most beautiful one. Of course, I like to see it the most but that's something different.

I also like the flags of Ireland, Italy, France and Spain. (Do I have a lot of new friends now? ) It has to do with colours and not everyone likes the same ones. Thank God.

You could add a little green and it wouldn't be so bad...

I really don't like the ordinary three bars or any stars on a flag idea, in fact, I have no idea which one is from which country when there are three bars up or down. Of course I recognize Germany and France but that's about it. Really boring flags. The cross idea in the Scandinavian flags is thank god not that widely used. Also the star idea is derived from the American flag to the EU flag and really worn out.

I voted for Ireland in this case, what an ugly color combination that is!! I would have voted for Estonia for the ugliest flag in Europe. Sorry guys down there... 8)

Funny, I used to like it very much when I was kid. :) Nowadays my taste is more "simple" and I like for example Lithuanian flag very much.

I would like to hear the story.

What comes to the flag itself, I don't like it very much - it is too colourful. :?

It's the combination of the colours of the ANC-flag (black, green and yellow) and the former South-African flag (red, white and blue). After Apartheid, they made this nice combination, to express the lands unity.

I think the flag quite much expresses what the country is now - a big mess.

Can't understand why noone likes the german flag... is it really just only because of the colours...? :(
However, I love that powerful red and bright gold that overcomes the dark. :D

This combination leads back to the uprising against Napoléon in 1813, was reactivated in the 1848-revolution and intendet as flag for a free and united Germany but unfortunately this movement failed and when Bismarck foundet the prussian-ruled Emire in 1871, it got a flag, dominated by the prussian colours black & white:
Image

Black-Red-Gold :flag-de: became national flag in the Weimar Republic for the 1st time, was banned during the Nazi-rule and restored when todays Federal Republic was established. More information about the background can be found here: http://home.t-online.de/home/Guenter.jo ... s/srg2.htm (german language).

I have not voted for an "ugliest flag" because every nation and their symbols deserve more respect than my personal preferences of colours I guess.

But this is my favourite flag:

A right-click (or equivalent) leads to http://www.flaggen-server.de and some more clicks reveal that this is the flag of the Landkreis Lippe (Landkreis=german district). This happens to be the Landkreis where Leopoldshöhe is located. I like this kind of research.
