Strategy games...

Post by Olivier » Sun Mar 30, 2003 6:54 pm

Hi!

You don't know that I really enjoy strategy games... I have played for hours with Civilization Call to Power, and other Sim City...
I am a bit bored of these games, now.

Would you have a suggestion of a new game to buy? What is the best, for you?

(do you also play with this kind of games?)

Olivier

Civilization- and Sim City-games are great. :D I haven't played Call to Power, but Civ 1, 2 and 3.

I recommend Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. It's basicly Civilization in space. Plot: Mankind moves to colonize a new planet with a huge spaceship. The people on the ship are divined into seven factions by their ideology (e.g. religion, science, collective, totalitarian -driven ideologies). Then they land and start colonizing the planet. I liked the game alot. Although some of the new technologies were sometimes difficult to understand, while in Civilization you already knew what inventing the wheel, irrarigation, nuclear fission or automobile means, in Alpha Centauri you really need to read the Civilopedia about the new technologies (e.g. Nonlinear Mathemathics, Retroviral Engineering and Threshold of Transcendence simply don't tell what advantages they bring. On the other hand, playing Alpha Centauri was excellent English excercise :))

In the past I played a lot of games on my computer, especially First Person Shooters like Quake2 and Quake3. I was pretty goot at them back then. :)

Now I play more on my consoles.
I have a Playstaion2, GameCube, Xbox, Dreamcast and many more! :)
I try to collect as much consoles as possible.

I've played simulation/strategy games like Sim city, Civilization (1,2,3 ctp didn't do it for me.) and Cammonad and conquer a lot. I played a lot of C&C generals recently but it isn't as good as Red Alert 2. I've allways liked startegy games best :D (and never really liked first person shooters.)
The Force is like Duck-tape, it has a dark side, a light side and it holds the universe together.

Sid Meier didn't participate anyhow making of Call to Power, so I hardly recognize it a Civilization game at all :)

I've played C&C, C&C: Red Alert and C&C Tiberian sun, but not those newer ones yet.

I played ALOT when I was younger. And I played almost all genres except sport games (Excluding NHL '96 with PC and some olympics games with Commodore 64. :) Those were times...). All platforms I had: Commodore 64, Nintendo SNES 8bit, Nintendo Gameboy (the original, not the new one), PC, PlayStation and PlayStation2.

www.whereswilly.com - what is the best strategy to achieve the individual goals (that might be a large number of bills entered, a high hit rate, a high Willy Index, etc).

Strategygames are the greatest!
I've played AoE II (a good game although not the best), Civ 2&3(before Civ3 I thought it would be impossible to make a game better than Civ2), Black&White (a bit different kind of a strategygame but I like it, being a god is always nice), SimCity 2(it's a legend) and some others occasionally with some friends
I'm going to buy SimCity4 or C&C Generals after I'll get a new computer (I'll get it tomorrow :D !) Don't know yet which one, maybe both

Then you best hurry....
Yesterday they decided here in Belgium to get C&C Generals out of the shops, because it's not good in times of war.
They said they'll allow it again after a while, but pffff...
I heard in Germany they did the same.
