Speed limits and some Commission proposals

Post by Olivier » Tue Sep 17, 2002 12:32 pm

Hello!

THis morning, on the radio (France Info), a journalist said that ther is a project to fight the mortality by car discussed by the Commission. One solution would be to prevet any car from driving faster than the speed limit.
Would you agree to drive a restrained car ?

BTW, what are the speed limits in your country?
In France, it's :
50 km/h in town
90 km/h on roads
130 km/h on motorways
110 km/h on motorways by rain.

My opinion is that everyone should take his or her own responsibility in traffic, that's one of the major points of attention when taking driving lessons. On the other hand, it's a good thing that there are developments going on to come to a safer way of driving, such as the development of electronic devices that make your car keep the same distance to the one ahead of you. I think things like this should be more encouraged by national governments, even more than they are today.
Speed limits in the Netherlands are:
50 km in town
80 km on roads
120 km on motorways
BTW, I always stick to 110/120 km on my motorbike. 8)

Well, I think the german speed limits are quite famous:

Towns: 50 km/h
(although most residental areas are 30 km/h)
Outside: 100 km/h
Autobahnen and Bundesstraßen: None! 8)
(at least in theory)

--------

I think such issues should remain a "national" thing, because every country has its own driving style. Personally, I like most the italian one ;)

Am I the only one that doesn't drive yet ? :)

Well, I'm only 17, and I really don't feel like driving yet.
For short distances, I take my 'velooke' (bicycle :p) and for longer distances I take the train. (There is a station at 500m from my home, right on the main railroad Antwerp-Brussels)
Tiger : Dutch, English, French, German
Little Spanish and Italian
Trying Finnish and Japanese :)

Oh well, here in Italy we are great fans of Schumacher, so we like to imitate him
Isn't the same in Germany?
BTW, this is a message to all the people who plan to come to Italy by car: keep not one, not two, but three eyes wide open!

Especially in the south... In Naples, they are just CRAZY !!!

In Malta, it's not bad neither.... They simply "adapt" the way of driving to their feeling. Priority to the biggest car, the strongest driver... 8O

in Portugal it's not good either.. in fact we have the sad european record of deaths on the road...

so I agree with project of the Comission.. because you can be responsible for your self, but you're not alone on the road... and there are many crazy people driving..
