Correction: Portuguese isn't a version of Spanish. Both languages came from the Latin, as well as French, Italian, Catalan and Romanian.
Actually, Portuguese is the 6th of the world (over 200 million people), spoken in every continents.

Considering that I speak both Dutch and German quite well, I would be very surprised if I really thought that Dutch has developed from present day German. So, of course I already knew what you said. I guess you are able to understand my point anyway, right?

Portuguese and Spanish, written are very similar, but spoken... I can´t understand any Portuguese word spoken.
