In Quebec, it's not, but Halloween is a big deal.

No holiday on November 1st. In Finland all saint´s day is always on Saturday. So today November 2nd shops are closed.

It´s tradition to light candels on graves this evening. The American halloween is not anything big yet.

In Germany All Saints' Day is a federal affair. Shops close in Baden-Würtemberg, Bavaria, Northrhine-Westfalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, also partly in Thuringia. In the other 10 states it is a rather usual day.

The 6 states mentioned above have more than 50% of the total population, so I voted "yes"

Yes, yesterday was holiday in Italy.
And it happened to be a Friday, so this means that most shops will get the occasion to make a big three days holiday.

My Belgian colleagues were still available on Wednesday, but many prepared for an extended weekend then. On Thursday, I lost contact. Hope they'll have returned savely by Monday.

I should spend some money when I go to a conference in Turnhout next Wednesday, the chances for a hit are much bigger in this area.

the Belgians did work until Thursday..., but like you said your colleagues were preparing for the extended weekend and probably didn't take up the phone anymore on Thursday :P ... I was lucky again with a project going live on Thursday.. i had to work until 2:30 at night at my bloody work
