This could go in the "Highest shortcodes" thread.
Someone should also ask him/her to post a picture (I don't speak/write spanish).

Bye

The EBTor itsasbeltza claims he got two of these from an ATM, and gave one of them to a bank cashier, who took it. This EBTor also claims he hasn't detected any sign of fakery except for the serial number's second letter.

I just asked for a picture.

I suggested this because the original message says it has got them form an ATM (if I'm correct), so they must be genuine notes.

For me, what's "different" in this affair is spanish serials, that have always been issued in alphanumeric order, apparently jumpin g from VA to VH. If I can recall correctly, first belgian 50ers, 100s and 500s were Z6***, first portuguese 50ers (by the way printed in Gateshead UK) were M8***, and first french Europafivers were UD***.

The fact of not being able to log them is because the "calculator" in EBT log sheet has been programmed so far for second letters up to F, having italian Europafivers with SF and french with UF.

Spanish checksum is 4, so one thing to try could be calculating it. Letter A equals 2, B=3, and so on. Thus, H should be 8. I've written in the spanish thread to try. The demand for photo hasn't still been responded.

I am not an image expert but the whole serial number seems shopped (altered in Photoshop or similar).

Just enlarge it and watch the grain on the white area surounding the serial number. Fotoforensics seems to support my suspicion: http://fotoforensics.com/analysis.php?i ... 5&show=ela

The grain surrounding the serial number is because of jpeg compression.

I don't answer for other countries, but for :flag-be: :

:note-5: = Z101-160
:note-10: = Z201-254
:note-20: = Z401-454 & Z501-554 together
:note-50: = Z601-635 than Z301-335 than Z301-340 than Z341-380 than Z641-680 than Z741-780 than Z701-740 than Z801-840
:note-100: = Z701-735
:note-200: = Z801-835
:note-500: = Z901-935

SORRY, SORRY, SOOOORRYYYYY!!!

I miscounted the letters, and if A equals 2 and B equals 3 for checksum purposes, following letters are C=4, D=5, E=6, F=7, G=8 and H=9.

I wrote it (with same mistake) in the spanish thread and the "bearer" said checksum result was 3. Thus, with H=9, the result of the addition is 4. It is a correct spanish checksum figure.

I'd say the bill is good, no matter how big the non-sequential letter can mean for spanish serials.
