Very shabby note, what to do?

Post by SeanW »

Ok, got this :note-5: from the bank this morning, it's in very poor condition and the short code is mostly unreadable.

Image

What should I do? Should I try and enter it anyway, making up a shortcode, and correcting it if an earlier hitpartner got the note in better condition? Or can someone check it manually against EBTs note database, going only by the serial, so I can tell in advance whether it would be a hit or not?

I think there's some chance I could get a hit with it, between its age (Duisenberg signature) and it's :flag-at: N serial number.

I'd enter the correct serial number and try to guess a possible shortcode.
I would specify in the comment that the shortcode could be wrong, too.

With the N serial number, guessing the shortcode will be easy, just post the first four digits after the N and we are able to help you!

If the serial number is higher than N300616 (except N300619), it must be F004A3, else it is F003A3.

Thanks, the 5th and 6th digits are much higher than 16, so F004A3 it is.

Entering now ...

No hit. Nothing new in Ireland

Thanks again guys :D

And if the note is so "shabby", I write down the url on it.

Than you've got more chance it will be entered again before it's destroyed.
And maybe, the new user will stay entering notes after the first time (and become an active member) 8) .

Yes, I write the URL on my notes sometimes, but I don't think it has any effect

Sometimes you can be lucky when writing url on note.
I got a hit in :flag-es: with a stamped note http://en.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=82886422" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It was that users first and only hit (a member since 2006)
I was very happy to have a note found in :flag-es: and I am sure my hitpartner was happy to get a hit from :flag-ie:

I once gave 8 stamped 5 euro notes to a grumpy Canadian (change from a :note-50: )
I suppose it was too many to give to one person. He might have thought they were fake notes and taken them to the bank.
If he was`nt so grumpy, I would have given him just 1 or 2.

I have been writing the URL on some of my notes for a while now, especially E/P €5s, was wondering if there's a better way.

Did you actually commission a rubber stamp for the purpose of "stamping" the notes? I've been considering doing that but today I ran some notes through my printer, which is something at least one dollar user on wheresgeorge.com had been doing, it was from there that I got the idea.

I did actually get a hit with a written-on note - I picked up a €50, put the URL on and someone signed up and entered it. Unfortunately they were what I call a "one hit wonder" i.e. someone who signs up to enter a single URL'ed note and then never returns.

I thought writing on or stamping Euro notes was a no-no since it "kills" the note: next time it goes through quality control at a bank it will be taken out. So I have been doing this only on very shabby (or already scribbled-on) notes which would get killed anyway.

not really:
1) I know of one user in Ireland who scribbles a dash through the "o" in Euro on the front of his/her bills. Yet that player has a lot of passive hits including a few internationally.
2) I've often got notes that were in *spectacularly* bad condition from area banks.

I think what you're referring to is when a note visits a central bank, then, yes it can get pulled. But I don't think that is very often.

I have also seen that dash through the O.
On :note-5: and on :note-10:
I had a :note-20: hit but I don`t remember the dash.

I used to put a mark on the back of my notes and a few were found.
I got a bit lazy and stopped doing it.
I might start putting a little dot over the same O.
Last night I gave away a note with a dash through the O and a dot over it.
If anyone spots it ,please enter it, as it would be a triple hit.

Can anyone tell me ,if the user who put the dash through should find this note and enter it again, would they get the hit or be told the they entered the note already????
