I agree - I have often had to spend a long time googling for postcodes in other countries - would be alot easier to have aceess to these in one place!

netiquette to use the search function before posting, but people are lazy, me too.
And I think that this collection of links (as well as the french collection) is quite useful for everybody.
I propose to insert on the entry page of the eurobilltracker a button "POSTCODE SEARCH".
If you click on it you come into a popup with the Link list for the different countries. If you click, a new window should show the Linked pages.

A good help is also
www.maporama.com . There you can track all necessary postal codes. It poses some problems if improper zip-codes are used. For Germany, it happens that people who allegedly have got a note in Berlin, use a zip code which places the note to somewhere in Southwest-Germany! Regrettably, such cities and zip-codes do not get away from the to-do-list, although it is impossible to give the correct data in order to fix them in the world map.
So, please use maporama or the other quoted sites to get the right zip code; or at least one of the zip codes that apply for a city, and the rest can be done easily. In this regard, please refrain from quoting the next major town when having received a note in some tiny village. Maporama finds them all, and the correct dots can be placed.
Anyway, keep on having fun with tracking.

Cheers - I've changed it. I've seen car reg plates with both L and LK, never knew which was the right one. Same with Waterford - I've seen both W and WD.

How do you manage to get postcodes? I get only maps.
BTW, a nice official list of links can be found
here.

Getting postcodes from Maporama: Insert a town`s name and wait until the map turns up. Right over the map, the name of the town is displayed, along with the zip-code.
Admittedly, this can also be frustrating. Enter, for instance, the name of the German town "Hausen", and 22 Hausens, along with zip-codes, are shown. It requires some basic knowledge of the system of our zip-system. But in many cases it can be a help.

Thank you, now I know how it works. Apparently you need to know an address. I tried to find out Schiphol and Mexico City Airport last week, and it was frustrating. Mexico does not work, but I finally found Schiphol. However, it was a hard piece of work. First entering Schiphol in the city field, then finding a street near the airport, and at last entering this street but typing Haarlemmermeer into the city filed this time, and this was the hardest thing to find out (after a lot of unsuccessful tries with unknown streets in Schiphol)
I have tried several airports and railway stations now, you only get the zip code if you enter an address. Just as an example: If you type in Amsterdam, centraal station, you get the correct map without zip code, in order to get a zip code you must enter Amsterdam, stationsplein.

For unknown postcodes i use
Map24.com
It covers all European countries! Just type in the city and a map appears. This small map i always maximize and when i zoom in there are icons appearing on the map. When you move your mousepointer over such an icon you can see the addressdetails of that location including the postcode!
That way you can be very accurate.
I also use
postleitzahl.org for germany and
postcode.nl for Holland.
Zoekplaats.nl is also usefull for dutch postcodes as it states all possible postcodes within one city at a glance.

It was very timeconsuming to find the postcodes of the towns - allways put the name to google and then find an address.
Does somebody of trackers know, if and where you can find easyly the postcodes? Country and then townname ?
Find the postcodes in Holland and Belgium:
www.postcode.nl and
www.postcode.be

lately they seem to have added a whole bunch of wrong postcodes.
For example, if you enter 88677 (which is only Markdorf), the first result will be Friedrichshafen, which is 88045, 88046 and 88048; and Immenstaad (88090) also appears on the list.
Also often you don't get the whole postcode if you enter a city.
I think that's the reason. They save Friedrichshafen only as 88, so if you enter 88677, they will complete 88 to 88677 and show 88677 Friedrichshafen. That's also the reason why you can't find the correct place of one out of several postcodes within a bigger city (e.g. 88046), you are always brought to the standard point "88 Friedrichshafen"

for italy this site is very helpful
www.nonsolocap.it
just write the town name under '
località' (town) and '
nome' (name).
you'll get a list of all places which have that specific letter combinations in their town name. If you have doubt which one is the correct one look for the abbreviation behind it which indicates the province in which the town is. Finally some names are not towns but neighborhoods in large cities, they are indicated by the word '
rione' which means neighborhood.
for example:
00128 Castel Romano RM Lazio Rione di Roma
(insert in ebt roma 00128)
86170 Castelromano IS Molise Rione di Isernia
(insert in ebt isernia 86170)
