Year on a banknote

Post by Olivier » Mon Feb 18, 2002 2:58 pm

All the euro banknotes have the year 2002. Will this change to 2003 next year or will it stay 2002 until a new banknote is designed ?
The bills printed in 2003 will be marked 2003.
A bill's life is estimated to 1 year and a half... so the bills we'll use in 2004 should be printed now (in 2002).
All the bills printed from 1999 to 2002 has been marked 2002.

I wonder if the coins will change as soon as other countries join the euro zone... (the map of the euro zone on one side).

Year on a banknote

I think, with the current layout, entering bills will be a little annoying in 2003.

When you enter a bill you first enter the value, then the year. To enter the serial you have to turn the bill. And to enter the short code, you have to turn the bill again.

IMHO the following forms should be more user friendly once we are in 2003.

Value
Year
Short code
Serial
