Wikipedia in English has a fairly long article about Fucking which explains why some tourists may be tempted to "grab" a sign as a souvenir. The name change story, however, seems to be a legend. ;)

In Lithuania, there are settlements Šveicarija, Paryžius and Londonas in radius of 5 km. What is more, there's a village called Kaukazas 15 km away :D

Neat. There are quite a few places named (after) Switzerland, basically whenever there are some hills in an otherwise flat region. ;) But such a combination is sure interesting.

It would be way more interesting if London were towns.

That map seems to be made just for fun. Paryžius and Londonas are not towns, just farms or settlements with 7 people each in 2001.

Would help to know more about the background. Some places in Europe were named after the original destinations of migrants, for example. Another funny combination: In the Northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein there is a town called Sommerland (summer land), and one village/hamlet in that place is Grönland, spelled like the German spelling of that big icy island ...

You have to look in a different country.

There's a quite large town/city called London, lying at the Thames River, in Middlesex County, even with a quarter called Hyde Park.

Where is it?

Haha, great. A "quite large town/city" could only be London, Ontario, but I had no idea about its river being the Thames too, or any of the rest. :D

The Finnish town of Kokkola sounds very nice in Italian because coccola or coccole (the c are pronounced like k) mean cuddling in the sense mother/child but also lover/lover.
For an Italian, Kokkola sounds a very sweet and cozy place, where no child will cry 8)

There are more funny-sounding town names in German-speaking countries.
Try this sequence on Google Maps :)

A little hasty, going from Fucking to Wedding in less than 7 hours…

Anyway, for many people, this is arguably the cycle of life: https://goo.gl/maps/MugFGFT69kL2
