Happy birthday eurobilltracker.com

Post by ErGo »

On January 1st 2002 Giro entered the first note into the Eurobilltracker-database:
https://www.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=1

So we celebrate today (and the whole year) the 20th anniversary of Eurobilltracker.com :D
Ad multos annos!

Was the short code not required back then? I never heard of this being the case! :o

I think, before the Euro was published as real notes, nobody knows that there was something like a shortcode (AFAIK there is until today no shortcode for US-Dollars).

But this changed after a short period and entering the shortcode was getting a must.
Until today the verification between serialnumber and shortcode is a very good indicator for the correctness of the entered data!

I can see that Giro registered on 23/12/2001, but he didn't enter the first note until 01/01/2002. Didn't the system allow any entries before €-Day, or simply nobody had any notes to introduce before? I got my first euro notes in December 2001, but I didn't know about EBT until 2009

I think, Giro wanted to start this website synchronized with the publishing of the Euro-notes. But this is something only Giro knows...

Already 20 years and two generations of Eurobills, the first one with the year 2002 (1155 registered banknotes) and the second (541 registered banknotes) with the effigy of Europa, the mythological goddess.
Four governors' signatures:
W. Duisenberg with 365 registered banknotes
J.C. Trichet with 604 (603 + 1) banknotes registered
M. Draghi with 642 banknotes registered (187 + 455)
C. Lagarde with (so far) 85 banknotes registered
In 2025, a new series of banknotes (the third one) could appear with remarkable European personalities...

No, there isn't. They do have a series number (a year, or a year plus the letter A), which is similar to the printer code in terms of being a layer of security to make faking more difficult (although a "random" code provides much security than a set of series that are provided at a pull-down menu when registering a bill at the Where's George site).

There are plate numbers for front and back, and the position on the sheet indicator. https://www.uscurrency.gov/sites/defaul ... hure_0.pdf
By the way - let's return to the topic :D

It would be great if ECB issued a commemorative banknote...

https://pt.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=115 = https://pt.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=215

Not very interesting.

I checked manually up to note id=500 and found no other hit.

Interesting, so only 10 full days in :o I seem to recall reading on some sort of FAQ page that it took about a month for the first hit to pop up.
