This article generated a few new users from The Netherlands:Only one in five banknotes in dutch wallets are printed in The Neterlands.
This number has decreased in the last few years constantly, as proven by research of the website eurobilltracker.eu
A year ago a quarter of all banknotes in dutch wallets were printed in our own country. Shortly after the introduction of the euro in January 2002, this percentage was 95%.
Due to international trade and travels across the borders dutch wallets mainly contain banknotes from Germany (36.4%). Also French notes found their ways to our wallets (22.1%)
You can recognise the origin of a banknote by the letter at the begin of the code on the note. For example the U comes from France, the S from Italy and the P from The Netherlands.
Eurobilltracker has 150.000 volunteers. They follow the banknotes by digitally registrating the serial numbers.
