Some forum statistics

Post by BogPoet »

Well, I was with a lot of time in my hands this afternoon and I compiled a few forum stats. Here they are:

www.ebtforum.com

Total Articles: 26616
Total Users: 454
Most users ever online was 21 on Tue Aug 12, 2003 3:30 pm

171 0-post users
283 users with 1 post or more
Average Posts/User: 58.626
Average Posts/User (removing 0-post users): 94.049

Very Active Users (50 posts or more): 68
Total postings: 23604 (88.683% of total postings)
Average Posts/VAU: 347.118
Countries with VAUs:
Belgium - 12
Canada - 1
Crossing Schengen borders - 1
Finland - 15
France - 3
Germany - 3
Italy - 1
Netherlands - 20
Portugal - 4
UK - 1
USA - 2
(yes, this is less than 68. Read disclaimer at the end)

Top User: Olivier (2331 posts)

Top Users by Country:
Austria: Austroboy (4)
Belgium: Bhoeyb (1208)
Canada: Olivier (2331)
Finland: Antti (641)
France: EuroBillTracker (905)
Germany: Micro (681)
Greece: Drachenwald (12)
Ireland: byrnefm (46)
Italy: Pinguino79 (366)
Netherlands: Fons (1370)
Portugal: BossaNova (627)
Spain: Angelino (20)
Sweden: Madj (10)
UK: matt.berlin (129)
USA: esperantisto (123)

I searched all users with one post or more and and I was unable to find people from Luxembourg and Norway.

DISCLAIMER: I based Country stats on the Location field in the Memberlist. People with empty Location field were not considered for this purpose. Guest postings were including on the overall posting numbers, but only registered users were considered. This data is just a snapshot of a given time, it will become obsolete as soon as I post it (because there will be one more post). I may have made a few mistakes. So, sue me.

Nice stats indeed. :)

One stat I kind of miss is the total time it took you to compile them.

I took two hours to compile them. As for a diagram of the standings, I was unsure of how many posts you need to achieve levels higher than my own, that's why I didn't include them :)

Not a criticism (because of your disclaimer and my own fault) just a remark:

This is not wrong, but not exactly correct either.

This was quite the type of errors I was defending myself from with the disclaimer. I never said the data was perfect (that's why there's a disclaimer ;)). I actually had Craft in mind, since I believe he's American (I'm not sure, though), and that would make him the top American poster. My first draft of the stats also had Dr. Julius as the Top Surinamese poster, since I know that from postings but to mantain consistency, I removed him from the list, since his location field is empty. I must also say that I had absolutely no idea where you were from (if I did, I wouldn't have created a special category for you in the Users/Country breakdown), and Austroboy's location field was the first I encountered that mentioned Austria. I'm sorry if I made a mistake.

 Well, now you know why I limited my info to the Location fields.

Updates?

Post by arttu »

Any updates, because the old is made over a year ago.
Could you even make ebtforum.com/stats page, like some forums have? (automatically updated or by hand)

Looks like Feb. 29 was indeed very special for the forum, a new current users record was set (131). But I'm confused. The record was 218 at one point, and then 738 some time later...

I have reset the high water mark at some point, because many of those usage peaks were caused by some bots from China crawling the forum from a few hundred different IP addresses at the same time. Sadly that number is not a reliable metric. In the case of Feb 29, yes, it was a busy day. This graph of mine is not particularly reliable either (see the "yearly" graph at the bottom that shows a peak of 1486 concurrent users) but it may still be useful for some information needs.
