I thought I'd mention it here as the information is most relevant to avatar uploaders..

To conserve some bandwidth at the forum server, all image files are now served from static.eurobilltracker.com which is actually our primary EBT web server, located conveniently close to FICIX with plenty of bandwidth. You shouldn't really notice this change at all, except possibly for the avatars. Whenever an avatar is updated, it gets sent to the 2nd server within 15 seconds. So if you're really fast, you may run into a situation where your avatar appears to be missing. But don't worry, your avatar will show up in a few seconds, just have some patience.

EDIT: This change has been reverted on 29.1., the entire forum has been transferred to our EBT web server. The old static.* links should still work, though.

Doesn't that break pretty much all avatar images currently embedded in the posts?

A good question, but no, it doesn't. All the avatar images are actually stored on both servers (and kept synchronized whenever there are changes), so the existing links will continue to work.

I tried to change my avatar. After uploading it didn't show up in my posts, but I can see it in my profile.
When I tried to put my old avatar back, I got the same result.
Whatever I do, I can't see a avatar in my posts anymore.

This is the URL the forum gives to my avatar in my posts:

http://static.eurobilltracker.eu/images ... c32938.gif

And this is the URL the forum shows in my profile:

http://forum.eurobilltracker.eu/images/ ... c32938.gif

It is my old avatar btw, but that will do. Better my old avatar as no avatar at all. ;)

Can you please help?

You're right, it was slightly broken, some file permissions weren't set properly (although it worked fine when I tested it..), it should work better now.

Hello,
I tried to upload an avatar to my profile but it's bigger than 90X90 pixels. I don't want to crop it because it won't be nice. Plz, tell me what should I do.

Well, if you don't want to crop the image (=remove part of the image to fit the restriction), you need to resize the entire image down to 90x90 max. Any picture editing program can be used for this, or you can use this web service that has been designed for just this image resizing purpose: http://www.shrinkpictures.com/

For the record, we're now using a similar setup as we had about half a year ago (see the top of this page). Most image files and avatars are now served from a different server to conserve some bandwidth from the primary web server. This arrangement can be considered temporary and will be in effect until we move the primary web server back to its proper place. Let me know if you run into problems, especially with avatars. If you need a link to your avatar image, please use the old forum.eurobilltracker.eu/images/avatars/... address, it'll continue to work regardless of these changes.

I tried to upload my old avantar

Image

But I only see on Profile - where I can change the image.

In postings there is only a white box with red X in it

(the link starting with static3.eurobilltracker instead of forum.eurobilltracker)

You're right, the script that synchronizes the images across servers didn't apparently start properly after the server was rebooted. Should be fixed now.
