I've hacked phpBB a bit to not choke on special characters, such as Greek. The HTML entities (such as š) are now used properly where needed.
Let me know if this change caused problems, or if there are still places where the encoding doesn't work properly.

Re: Character encoding problems (Φόρουμ)
Hi,
I think my issue is about character encoding, so I'm posting here rather than starting a new topic.
I noticed that if a link contains an accented letter (maybe any unicode character will do) the link will not appear underlined in the post, but the whole code is shown instead.
For example
example
I tried to preview this exact link deleting the "ì" and it's shown fine.
Since now URLs may contain unicode characters, they should be handled properly.
Bye.

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car%C3%ACa" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; works, although it's not particularly pretty. Of course the link does not need to be visible.

Yes, I knew you can substitute accented letters with alternative codes, but if I paste an URL from my browser's address bar, it doesn't get converted that way (maybe if I use a very old browser it would).
What I intended was if you guys could get it to work without conversion before one's posting.

When I visit that Wikipedia page and paste that URL here, I get http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Car%C3%ACa" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; automatically (using FF 37.0.1).
Sorry, I'm afraid we don't have the resources to fix phpBB bugs (if this even is a bug). If you feel this is a bug and needs to be fixed, please report it to phpBB.

Thank you for your reply, I didn't know that.
I was using Safari, version 5 on my Mac, and the mobile version, and both behave the same.
I will report that to phpBB and I'll let you know.
