Post by Ord€p » Sat Sep 06, 2008 3:08 pm

Today i received a exemplar of this coin in the supermarket:

It's a special edition from "Olympic Committee of Portugal" to "Beijing 2008 Olympic Games".

Wow! Very nice coin!

You received it in the supermarket? Can you really "pay" with it then?

These coins can only be used in the country of origin.... in this case Portugal.
Jelle zonder internet. Het was een leuke hobby, maar niet mijn hobby. Een leven zonder internet is mijn ding. Een leven van geld uitgeven in plaats van tracken zeg maar.... hahaha. Ja, er mag gelachen worden.

Must be very confusing for the supermarket workers (memorizing all the time that there are some off-denomination coins in the cash register, and the question in which sleeve to put this coin) and customers alike. Wouldn't have thought minting other-than-normal-denomination coins was allowed!

That specific coin was issued only for Continente (the supermarket) and to be given as change only in the 8th of each month during the olympics.
Getting it at the bank is almost impossible, only if someone makes a deposit with those coins.
Since i don`t have any Continente around, my coin (i just have one) came from the bank.
But besides this coin there are some special 2,5€ editions from Fado, 5€ Laurissilva Forest Madeira (available in the bank)
