I saw 2003 Finnish euros on ebay. I even saw one in circulation here, It was a 2003 2€ piece. Very nice shape. Some other rare euro coins were the the Belgian 2002 1€ piece which even Belgians saw very few of. I saw some but they are rare.

Also I'm glad we don't use those 1c and 2c coins here in Finland. I think the value of euro should have been set higher originally so that the smallest coins would have had some kind of value. The problem is that people are no longer used to high currencies.

Just think about the value of sterling in 1920's... you could buy a new car for 200 quid. One pound was 20 shillings, one shilling was 12 pence and one penny was 4 farthings. Also 1/3 and 1/4 farthing coins were used, and you could buy goodies or something by them. On the top of that, five shillings were one crown and 21 shillings (i.e. a pound and a shilling) were one guinea. One pound was a lot of money but nowadays people don't want to count pennies as they'd think they are poor.

I also think that the name of the currency should have been some REAL currency name. We have a long tradition of different currencies here in Europe. It could have been taler, shilling, ducat, forint or something like that instead. Is it so that it would have been too difficult for European people to accept the new currency if their old enemy had had a currency with the same name...? :?

A former intention was to call the European currency "Franc", a name which has been used once in a while in nearly every EU country's history. Finally it came out that it would hurt the Spaniards if they got confronted with "Francos" again.
