I guess Matt didn't expect the thread taking this direction :)
Here's my two (euro)cents: remember that England invented football (note for Americans: we call football what you call soccer :P ); it wouldn't be bad to celebrate this on euros.
I am waiting for someone proposing a pizza for Italian coins (the round shape calls for it) or a "lupara" (gun used by mafiosos)

Instead, I was just saying that Finland should be blessed for giving us Linus Torvalds and the Linux operating system (among other things) :)
Of course not.

Poutsi, could you make a 2€ coin with Sampo in it?

And for UK: the underground sign to the 1€ coin and map of the USA to the 2€ coin :P

Some artist could make a funny web page about these "alternative" Euro coin designs..

NO WAY! I'd rather see the Queen's head on the €2 than that!

Eh, that would be pretty difficult since Sampo is not depicted in Kalevala

There are 8 Euro coin denominations.

There are 4 constituent countries of the UK.

Give each of the countries 2 coins (draw lots to decide which country gets which coins, or otherwise let England have the 2 Euro and the 1cent; Scotland the 1 euro and 2 cent; Wales the 50cent and 5 cent; NI the 20 cent and 10 cent. Then let each country's parliament decide what goes on each of their coins. Oh whoops - no parliament for England of-course, but I'm sure we could come up with a set of about 5 new quangos to be entrusted with the design process!

Don't they actually tell quite a bit of what kind of parts it has? It is also possible moving it in some manner, that should also give good hints of its shape and weight.

Well, how about "Rocket" (the first locomotive), a Rolls, a RADAR-antenna, ... technical items .

The Queen's head on the coins of 1 and 2 euro is reasonable, I think. The smaller coins can be with the constituent parties of the UK. Or, why not give the UK the right to have different euro's, one for each country of the UK? They already have notes (and coins?) in Pound Sterling that are different from banks in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
