Today I got my first :flag-ie: 1ct. coin out of circulation after merely 13 years :D . I received it as change in a bakery in Münster, and although it is a 2002 one, it's in outstanding condition, as if it was stored somewhere the last 13 years 8O .

Luckily, it was inside a building and therefore, it is still quite shiny :D

But then i noticed that cash register was full of UNC :flag-lt: 5 cent coins, they must get them from bank.
What can be true - we see big amounts of :flag-ie: 1 and 2 cent coins here in Lithuania, and I have a suspicion, that there was some swap between our banks/supermarket systems (LIDL ???)

We have more or less stopped using 1 and 2 cent coins here for cash transactions. We started rounding to the nearest 5 or 0 a good while back. People were hoarding the coins in jars because they were so difficult to spend. They were costing the government money to produce them. I'm not even sure if we still produce 1 and 2 cent coins, haven't seen them in Ireland in quite a while. I got some in change recently in Spain and it was strange getting them :o

As a side note I'm always pleasantly surprised when I find Irish coins abroad. It hasn't happened very often, maybe 2 or 3 times. I always wonder how they got to where they did. The very first note I entered from Lithuania was an :flag-ie: :note-10: I got from an ATM and it turned out to be a hit. Don't know if it was a pooling note or just an Irish note that happened to make its way to Lithuania.

Update 2019.02.23. coins in my change from last Christmas:
:flag-lt: 207, :flag-de: 51, :flag-ie: 40 (15 1ct and 22 2 ct), :flag-lv: 23, :flag-es: 15, :flag-it: 13, :flag-fi: 10, :flag-at: 8, :flag-be: 5, :flag-nl: :flag-gr: :flag-pt: 3 each, :flag-ee: 2, :flag-mt: :flag-sk: :flag-cy: :flag-lu: - 1 each
And 3 years ago it were 2 coins from 150. Irish coins were rarity. So they are now, if take other, than 1ct and 2ct coins.
