Banknotes with first signature

Post by krisandba » Thu Dec 25, 2014 4:44 pm

How common are banknotes with first (Wim Duisenberg) signature? I can't find them anywhere in Latvia. Also, I haven't ever got old 5 euro banknote.
Man vienalga viss.

Labdien,

:note-50: :note-100: :note-200: :note-500: with Duisenberg signature are common / still available.
:note-10: :note-20: are very scarce and generaly in poor condition (F, VG/F).
:note-5: are extremely rare in circulation now, but for crisp UNC we have enough banknote dealers online :)

Unfortunately, yes, only old ones that might be in circulation here are brought by tourists. But today is my lucky day, I got my first one old 5 euro banknote (with Trichet signature, but still better than nothing).

That might explain why I can't find them, because I mostly use 10€ and 20€ banknotes.

Central bank officially imported only Europa series for Euro introduction, but there are older banknotes in the banks and people's wallets.
But it's still a little worry, if my old tenners will be taken by saleswomen in little town, when everybody will get new, Europa-series notes from ATMs and those notes will be brought to shops as a cash to work. I hope, they do not call the security, seeing them :)
And about banknotes with Duisenberg signature - here it appears, when people take old savings from some hidden places for buying car or going to vacation abroad. Then we see some bunches of :note-50: :note-100: - bankfresh, numbers in a row.

When you look at some statistics on EBTST then about 2% or less is Duisenberg. Unfortunately there is no breakdown on denomination, but in my own experience, Duisenberg :note-5: and :note-10: are very rare.

I thought also that Duisenberg :note-5: and :note-10: are quite rare in Finland before the new series came to circulation. When banks start to give old notes out, we can see many Duisenberg fivers and tenners which have been years in banks. With old fivers we had many German and Austrian Duisenbergs from GSA bundles, and with old tenners we have many Spanish and Dutch notes which are pooled maybe from Spain. Some Finnish people get very nice hits with those fivers from Austria, but I haven't seen or heard about hits with these old tenners we have now. But still, it's nice to see different notes and combinations before the old notes will be destroyed.

You can start to collect "typical UNC local issues of Lituania" (or of a city / a bank) .
