Will any of the 2018 €2 CCs for the 100 years for Baltics be released to circulation?

Post by goldeneye »

I know that there were four commemorative €2 coins minted for the 100th anniversary, but is it known yet if any of these four will be released to circulation?

It would be an extra sweet birthday present for me to take home if I can find at least one of these in circulation, especially the Latvia version, since I just celebrated my milestone birthday on Latvia's milestone birthday (different milestones though).

So far, I only found 2014-dated (except some 2016 €1s) coins in Latvia and 2015-dated (except some 2017 €2s) in Lithuania so far.

When I was in Lituhania this september, I managed to get the Lituhanian 2€ commemorating the 100-years anniversary of the Baltic States, so they are out there!

I had got 1 Latvian and 1 Lithuanian "100 years" coins so far from regular circulation. They are not so easy to get. BUT - some time will pass, and they maybe will be released as simple 2€ coins. Now we find absolutely new "Vilnius" CC in shops, where they were passed in bank rolls instead of regular ones.
You found all the regular coins of Latvia (2014 and 2016 1€ only). Lithuania has more varieties (because we have mint in Vilnius  ) - there are 2015, 2016 and 2017 1c coins, 2017 2c, 10c and 20c coins, Happy hunting :)

I did notice earlier today from another website which claims the Latvia 100 years €2 has a mintage of 500,000 - is that actually the correct mintage figure (not including the amount for coin sets (only 7,000!), which I was tempted to buy one, but the shops were closed as it was observing the public holiday)?

As for Lithuanian coins, I found two 2017 €2 coins from change from a restaurant in Vilnius on my only night there five nights ago, fairly new - were these recently released, as I don't see them listed in your list, unless you misspoke and meant €2 instead of 2c.

My sister was in Estonia in April and she got me every Estonian commemorative coin from the Central Bank in Tallinn at face value. Maybe they're also available in Riga and Vilnius...
