Hello everybody
Recently i found this 2 cent coin. It looks like it was mistakenly coined out of the material what 10 and 20 cent coins are out of. Is it rare or a collectable piece or something very common. Thank you for your answers and have a nice day

Re: Interresting 2 cent coin
Is it magnetic?
Re: Interresting 2 cent coin
Yes it is, little less magnetic than the original.
Re: Interresting 2 cent coin
In case, it has same edge, as regular 2 cent coins (groove in middle) - somebody tried to play with chemistry and put "brass colour" coating on copper. If the edge is other shape - congratulations, you found some rarity

Re: Interresting 2 cent coin
I work in retail, and the coin was part of a sack of 50 x 2 cent coins from bank, we use the sacks to replenish change in the cash registers. It was a part of the new sack i opened. I thought banks get rid of such damaged coins dont they?
The edge is the same as regular 2 cent coin.

Re: Interresting 2 cent coin
I mean, if someone coated it, wouldnt be the sharp details a bit ''blurred''?
Re: Interresting 2 cent coin
I looked at the picture with big magnifying (5 times). All the corners, which are left sharp after punching, are filled with "brass" - that is exactly a coating. And if it is only 10-20 microns thick - everything remains visible.
You asked, if banks want to avoid such a coins - I think, bank teller did not saw this coin through coin's entire life, coins are counted and packed by the machines, and the machine feels size, weight and magnetism of a coin. It is perfect coin for the machine, no doubts appear.
I would leave this coin near your cash register as a souvenir. It costs 2 cents and can work as a advertisement for somebody to visit you
Happy New Year!
