2006 Torino Olympics

Post by debemaks »

Hi, it's from the 13th of February that Italy issued the 2 Euro coin for the Olimpics, really nice.
No idea of tirage!

Mintage is 40 million; see the last few messages in the "World Food Programme Coin" discussion. :) And yes, it is a nice piece!

Have not found that coin in circulation here (in NW, DE) but I have one. What I did come across, though, was a €2 "Schleswig-Holstein" coin (2006 G) a few days ago ...

Some of the countries put a date of 2002 on all their first euro coins, whether or not they were minted before 2002 (Ireland is one such example). Other countries, such as Spain, put the year of manufacture on them, so you can find dates as far back as 1999 on theirs.

he says younger, that means 2003+
And I can't believe that someone never gets a 2003/2004 coin in Germany. Either you don't look exactly or you never get 1-5 cent coins.

As I have been paying a bit more attention to coins lately, especially to the very shiny ones, I noticed I had a 2006 :flag-it: 20c in the wallet. I don't know if they have different mints in Italy, but there was a tiny 'A' on it.

There is a R above the year on all coins from Italy. It stands for Roma, where there is the Bank of Italy which mint the coins.
