We had this Europe Day (see image) on Saturday. After all, neither 5 May (the CoE's day) nor 9 May (the EU's day) are holidays here, so a Saturday such as 5/5 works fine. Another fortunate coincidence, as far as the timing is concerned, is that Ascension Day is on 10 May this year. Why fortunate?
Every year, on that day, the Charlemagne Prize is awarded in Aachen (NW, DE) - and this year's laureate, Emmanuel Macron, will not only be in Aachen for the award ceremony but also the day before. So today, on Europe Day, he will give a speech at the RWTH (Aachen University), at about three in the afternoon. Admission is free (for anybody who has the time and opportunity to attend) but you had to pre-register.
Afterwards there will be a "Europe Live" event in downtown Aachen, with live music, food stands, etc. - and Macron will also show up there, at or around seven in the evening. Tomorrow is the official prize ceremony, and Macron's speech will be broadcast live. See this flyer in English.

Re: GOOD 9 MAY, EUROPE DAY
Happy Europe Day, dear Christian.
Actually 9 May is an official holiday throughout the EU, sometimes also marked on calendars, even if it does not correspond to a day of vacation time (...but nothing prevents a complete holiday taking a day off, like I do ). We can celebrate 5, 9 or 10, but the European national holiday, this is in substance even if not officially, is only 9 May. Anyhow it is important to celebrate, because we do not talk about nonsense
European soul, European pride.

Re: GOOD 9 MAY, EUROPE DAY
We had our "Europa-Fest", with lots of info booths but also live music (oh, and food too) last weekend. That was on 4 May, partly because that was a Saturday but also because it was the opening of the Europe Week. This morning the same square (in front of the city hall) looked kind of deserted, but they did have the European flag out ...
