A German 5-Eurobill has two shortcodes: 'P' and 'R'. Right?
Look to your keybord: Under the letter 'R' you will find the letter 'F'. My idea is that wally make a mistake: instead of 'R' his finger found 'F'. Do you agree with me?

this is the banknote of googlejaps and it is a :note-5: P/X

@Dominic38 :

1) "we will have even less information than we have now" :arrow: less information, for the whole database : yes, for sure... but we will have MORE information with best quality ! :)
2) "Why users do not begin to enter good?" :arrow: I answer : Why EBT is not able to do an automatic matching between the short code and (part of) the serial number ? ;)
3) "In 3 years and 4 months I made some mistakes too" :arrow: Near 12 years here (Yes, I am an EBT-dinausorus ! :mrgreen: ), I have made some mistakes (Yes, "Error is human") but thanks to another website :
- where you can send by mail a huge pack of notes (more than 1.000 at once ! 8O ) instead of the "online" encoding system (just one way : note-after-note... :( )
- where the automatic matching is done for each note introduced - "online" or by mail;
- where you can (quasi) immediately correct the data;
I can do the corrections into EBT ! :D
4) "if I can find them in my stats with all the tools that we have available today" :arrow: A huge question : is it easily in EBT to find and deal with huge data - from all EBTers - about a specific kind of note (i.e. "in which countries can I easily find :note-20: E / R027-notes ?" ? The answer (for EBT) is unfortunately...no, and the answer (for other websites) is...yes.
5) "Be an huge specialist isn't an excuse." :arrow: I agree too.
6) "The fifth Italian tracker with 60000 notes more than (°\=/°) wally2cv & co has 0 errors." :arrow: So : with a kind of attention, it's possible to introduce €€€-notes without errors ! :D

@mico : great thanks for the URL ! :D It confirms that a Hit is occured by matching ONLY the serial number (and perhaps the value ?), but NOT the short code... "Presidente & Alex77" has actually the same kind of mistake (with a :note-20: "S").
http://liste.eurobillets.free.fr/ : don't miss it every day ! à zieuter tous les jours ! kijk elke dag ! :D

Hi LArdennais.

Thanks for letting me know I got a nice hit with wally2cv, I didn't see it in the site yet.

I think you make a big deal about this hit. I agree with you that the short code is important, and an EBT'er should always strive to fill this information correctly. I always check the short code, but as has been said before, every human can make mistakes.

I think a percentage of 1,92% is an acceptable error rate for this situation, mainly because the purpose of being accurate when entering notes always breaks down to be: hobby. There are no lives at risk, and there are no big financial or other consequences for entering a wrong short code. (See this discussion on data entry error rates in cases where making a mistake is much more serious than in our situation).

I think a low error rate like wally2cv is acceptable because:
  • The short code is printed very small. Normally not a problem for me, but there are lots of trackers who don't have perfect eye-sight like me.
  • The characters of the short code are often very similar. It is very easy to confuse I and J, E and F, F and P, B and E, 8 and 3, 5 and 6 etc.
  • The short code is often located near a fold line of the note. Damages because of these folds can make a short code unreadable. Something which is almost impossible for the serial number.
I think adding the short code to the criteria to determine a hit is a bad idea. Mainly because the short code is not a property of a note that makes it unique. The properties of a note that uniquely identifies them are the serial number and the denomination. These are the only properties needed to determine that I had the same not as wally2cv.

I think back to the time when the website did use the short code. The system sometimes rejected a note and the user would get a message like: "This note is entered in the system before by another user, but you used the incorrect short code". So then you know it is a hit, and (after checking that you entered the correct shortcode) you know that the other user entered the wrong short code, and you can only make a hit when you guess the short code the other user entered.

Finally, your argument for improving database quality is valid, however I would point out to you that the quality of the data is very high in EBT compared to other sites. There are lots of measurements that make sure that the quality stays high. Which is one of the reasons that EBT is so succesful.

Oh, did you mean this website with the better "automatic matching between serialnumber and shortcode " introduction? :wink:
Fortunatly for us, there are still enough errors in their data, to proof, if someone is taking the data from there :mrgreen:

No, I didn't register any note on ET since 8 or 9 years because of the high security risk.
Most probably he is re-entering/interpolating his old notes.
